Because we can show stats from all over the world where stricter gun control has led to fewer gun deaths and no mass shootings.

And I severely doubt youd be able to drop your cheesburger and draw your weapon with your fat greasy fingers before the gunman blew you away if you were left in a situation like this.
How would that have helped in this case? Give the teacher a weapon that she has no chance to even put her hand on because the guy comes through the door and shoots her immediately? How about the children? Arm a bunch of 5-10 year olds? On every day this doesn't happen have guns on every teacher just waiting for an incident to happen? Pretty sure an actual teacher already posted here and said this idea is fucking ludicrous.

Very sad and really unfortunate that posters here can't keep a little dignity in this thread despite your point of views. As for gun control, I tend to agree with what Joker mention awhile back about banning assault rifles. There is something amiss in regards to our violent culture. Is it the lack of religion/faith? Maybe. How do you explain the other countries in the chart, especially Japan and South Korea? Not exactly sharing our same religious beliefs. Is it the increase in violent video games? Not sure and I have no clue as to the degree of popularity of said games in other countries on that chart but I actually would be very curious to know that.
It's the usual story, wag your finger and think your point of view is the right one.

I agree. The most unfortunate thing about all of this is how willing individuals in this society are so willing to blame society for the shortcomings of individuals. When did we as a society and a country quit holding individuals responsible for their actions? The truth is that there are several different arguments that we can all speculate on about how this could have been avoided but the fact of the matter is, nobody wants to talk about them. It isn't on their agenda to talk about the availability of mental health care to everyone. Improvements in several different social systems may have prevented a lot of things, but they didn't. The fact is, this person is responsible for his reprehensible actions. Society may have failed him, I don't know, but he certainly failed society far worse.

I guarantee he would have killed someone if given the chance.

Medal detectors at schools would help for visitors, this country throws enough money away to foreign countries and for other bullshit why can't they at least protect the youth? Just a thought

What good is a Detector going to do to stop someone coming in with the intent to harm others.....Alarms goes off then what, end results the same.
You are buzzed into the lobby of the building and are scanned by a metal detector with security personnel present. If the alarm sounds, you are unable to enter a second set of doors which leads to the school itself.
Can someone please tell me how you are going to reduce the availability via stricter control. You want it? How do you do it?
