Very true GJN. He's going to be wishing he had that 3 pts he could have had at 35-28. If he'd taken the FG there, then that TD, he'd be up 3 now and Wash would be playing ONLY to get to OT. Now they have a shot at the win.

Ball over on downs by Wash - game over.

Well I'll take it. It's a win. It's been a rough day so I should be happy and take whatever I can get.

Really? It made sense for so many reasons. You kindly obtain a clue buddy. You don't put your rookie QB in that position and then rely on luck. There was WAY too much time left in the game to go for it. 4th and 14 is not easy. Either way they had to stop the Skins on their next possession...so either way it makes sense to put points on the board!!

You give yourself a chance still if Wash goes and kicks a FG of their own. You're still only down 7. But now you come up with zero and can't let Washington score ANYTHING. You're playing for the outright win if Wash comes up empty, as they did.

Explain please. How with 3:45 left is it wrong to take a FG?

4th and goal from the 14 is a good call? Only when desperate. Much too much time left to be desperate.

GM -- you are right there was too much time to be desperate. But based on Sims' history/lack of experience and the defense that the Skins are capable of there is no way that Gruden could have been confident he'd be back in the red zone again. At that point in the game it was very possible that was the best look he was going to get at the end zone.

In my opinion the decision could have gone either way, coin flip situation.

I don't think its that cut and dry. I think like blackman said its a coinflip. you can make an argument for both going for it and kicking it.

probably half the coaches in the league go and half kick.

really depends on the coach i guess. a parcells type would kick, a gruden would go for it, and a norv turner would punt.

And Herm Edwards would probably take a delay of game penalty getting the play in.

I would have gone for the TD... even if they don't make it, they've got Wash.pinned deep...3 and out and you've got the ball back probably in Wash. territory...which is exactly what happened.
Kick the field goal, and you have to kick off...you lose field position.
Gruden made the right call IMO.
