i vaguely recall saying that they are too perimter oriented and rely way too much on the 3 ball. unofficial stats have them at 33 pt attempts tonight and 0 free throw attempts. yep, thats the sign of a top 10 team thats a national title contender.

yep

they play that way and they're gonna need to shoot 50% from 3pt land in each game to win 6 straight in march

or

they could play that way and shoot 25% from three pt land and lose to a 12 seed in round one

they need more balance and they seem to be drifting more and more to the three

ive compared that style of offense to a spread offense football team who is first and goal from the 1 yard line and they're in the shotgun formation snapping the ball 5 yards back .... to go one yard forward. west virginia definitely has shooters, theres no doubt about that. but winning basketball in march hasnt changed over the years. teams who aggressively attack the basket are the teams who often have an easier path to cutting down the nets. its not about having a dominant big man. those are rare in college ball. but attacking the basket is a foreign concept to wvu for some reason. gansey is their best in that department, but otherwise they just shoot 3s all day.

The biggest thing I saw tonight was that on a couple occasions they passed up lay-ups to get open 3's. They hit them tonight, but you can't play that way or your going to get burned.

Makes me wonder.....

When Duke plays an intrasquad scrimmage are no fouls called or ar fould called every trip down? Must be real confising for the refs.

Usually Coach K coaches one team or the other, so thats the side that gets all the calls.

But, yeah, its kind of like asking whether God can make a rock so heavy that He can't pick it up.
In this case, its more like Lucifer.

WVU is the one of the most overrated teams in the country. They are a decent team, but people need to get off them a bit. They are dangerous, but they will be out of the tournament before the Sweet 16.

those are words that are liable to get you a ban around here. keep that opinion to yourself. they would kill central michigan and eastern michigan.

It sure is easy to kick them while their down. They are simply going through a bad stretch in a brutal conference. They have lost 3 in a row...... 2 on the road and the other to the best team in the nation. They have 4 conference losses by a total of 18 points?

Ya see, this senior laden team will regroup and make a run in March. Probably don't have enough to get past sweet 16...but, that my friends is the beauty of the Dance...ya just never know.

wilson:

my whole issue with them is that they were grossly overrated as a top 10 team. other than that, i respect what they've accomplished up to this point. they don't have anything to be ashamed of. they lay it out there every game and certainly don't get outworked. but they're nowhere near a top 10 team. they're a good, solid top 25 team.

No argument here. They are so deficient underneath its pathetic. It is so frustrating watching every team in this fawking conference push our guy aside and dunk. We gave up 17 dunks to UCONN. 17! That has to be a record.

Speaking of records..check this out. The last 2 games against the 4 post players on the opposing teams WVU faced, (Boone, Armstrong, Watkins, Roberts) they have gone 27 - 34 from the field! That is so sad. :)

i didn't know uconn has 17 dunks. i know armstrong had 3 in the first 5:00 and that uconn won the glass 39-19. but 17 -- yikes. their ncaa draw will be vital. with a good draw, they could get back toward the elite 8. with a bad draw, they could very realistically be bounced in the first weekend. a team like san diego state, who has slaughter and abukar inside, could be a horrific draw for the mountaineers. but a team like akron, who is very good, would be a favorable matchup for wvu because of their own lack of size.
