Having come to a realization that the 10th-ranked West Virginia men?s basketball team was probably going to come up short in its bid for a Big 12 regular-season title, WVU players were quick to note there is still so much to play for this season.

?We?re playing for [NCAA] tournament seeding,? WVU guard Tarik Phillip said following the 76-62 loss to No. 3 Oklahoma, on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the WVU Coliseum. ?We?re playing for Big 12 tournament seeding, as well. All these games count. Another loss here, another loss there and we will really feel it.?

Kansas holds a two-game lead over WVU, Oklahoma and Baylor with three conference games remaining.

The Jayhawks also swept Oklahoma, which swept the Mountaineers, meaning WVU would have to win the conference outright ? meaning both Kansas and Oklahoma would have to lose three of their final four games and WVU would have to win out ? to earn the Big 12?s No. 1 seed in the league tournament.

?Season isn?t over,? WVU guard Jaysean Paige said. ?We?ve got to finish strong to put together the strongest seed we can come up with. Regrouping and finishing strong are the most important things for us right now.?

The Mountaineers (20-7, 9-5) face their third consecutive nationally ranked opponent today, as 13th-ranked Iowa State (19-8, 8-6) visits the Coliseum looking to avenge a stunning 81-76 loss to the Mountaineers on Feb. 2, at the Hilton Coliseum.
