Think the Yanks regret trading Jose for Estaban............I know Jose sucked against the Sox but he sure looks like a better and younger pitcher than Loaiza.........I think the Yanks screwed up.......

Yes, stupid move, Loaiza is not that good at all, one good season and he was lucky, Contreras is a lot better!

actually, looks like Contreras moved to the perfect spot, i'd think he'd still be struggling as a yankee, as for Loaiza , hes just OFF and i believe if tore keeps putting him in there and he pitches 1 strong game in N.Y and feels that emotion from the fans.. FORGET ABOUT IT! he will be fine!

but will torre take him out of the rotation?? thats the question..

TORONTO -- After five mediocre starts, Esteban Loaiza lost his job in the New York Yankees' rotation on Saturday and was sent to the bullpen.

Loaiza failed to make it out of the fifth inning in Friday's 8-7 victory over Toronto.

``I'm not disappointed. I'm not surprised because I know I haven't been pitching well since I got here,'' Loaiza said.

Loaiza, 0-2 with a 7.30 ERA in five starts for the Yankees, hung his head when manager Joe Torre came out to the mound with one out in the fifth to remove him. He left to boos from Yankees fans scattered throughout SkyDome.

``He just seems like the logical one to not be one of the five,'' said Torre, who is returning to a conventional five-man rotation after using six starters for two weeks. ``He was fine with it. He understands there is work to do. He feels his stuff is getting better, but he's been inconsistent.''

Loaiza is 9-7 with a 5.23 ERA in 26 starts this season, going 0-2 with a 7.30 ERA for the Yankees. New York, which acquired him from the Chicago White Sox on July 31 for Jose Contreras, intended to use Loaiza as a long reliever.

``I have it in me and I want to do it,'' Loaiza said. ``I haven't won a game since I've been a Yankee, and I want to get my first win under my belt.''

Loaiza won 21 games last year and finished second to Toronto's Roy Halladay in the AL Cy Young Award voting.

Right-handers Kevin Brown, Mike Mussina, Orlando Hernandez, Javier Vazquez and Jon Lieber remain the rotation.
