I give Roy Williams and Cocaine Quin Snyder and some other coaches lots of grief, but is there a more overrated coach than John Calipari?

i COMPLETELY agree. im a casual florida hoops fan and always pull for them but billy is living off his final four run back when he had miller and haslem and harvey. they have so much talent yet have not won a big game in a loooong time.

Johnny I agree in principal but not fact - Donovan got to the Championship game as a 5 seed including a win over Puke at the Meadowlands aka Cameron North.

i hate big 10 hoops but theres no way amaker is overrated. he has kept that program afloat through so damn much. injuries, ncaa probation, all that shit. and through it all, theyve been competitive. dont agree there.

dave odom is a tough call. i think you can make an argument both ways.
1) given the fact that he had the best basketball player on the planet for four years of college, he should have won a title. if im not mistaken, i dont even think they made a final four did they?
2) flip side says he did a great job with the deck stacked against him in the acc at a small school that has < 10,000 kids. could be wrong, but think thats the smallest school in the acc. very similar to northwestern competing in the big 10.
i think its a debate that can be won arguing both sides, with neither one being wrong.

No Final Four - dont think they even made a regional final with Duncan.

Well GMan I know it's hyperbole but I will ask anyway - you me and Johnny coach Wake with Duncan ,Woods et al - you telling me they would have done worse?

john calipari is $hit. too bad i never get home in time to post on the tigers. i have bet against memphis several times this year, and i have been a winner several times as well. no inside game,poor shot selection,poor rebounding,overall lack of hustle. this team is terrible.calipari is a used car salesman and deserves to be canned. memphis is way too overrated. make the $$ while you can because vegas will catch up soon. do not think i will see too many more dd lines for the tigers this year. jmo

jmo, but as far as calipari goes, i think the media is the one who overrated memphis out of the gate. remember seeing cal do an interview (imax maybe?) where he said that he thinks theyre overrated and wont come together until after the new year. and if im not mistaken, wasnt memphis one of the best 2nd half (of the season) teams in the country last year? to his credit, he does seem to do his best coaching down the stretch.
gman, no disrespect intended , but i live in memphis. i see almost every game, and i am very critical. it s the same story with this group every year. they do not blend egos well, we never recruit the "smart players " , very few players ever really improve from one year to another in his program. (burks being the exception). i do not have the time nor energy to devote to this topic, but i can assure you calipari is overrated. he has so many extras afforded him that no other coach received before him - down to the private jet he used from fed ex when he got started.
larry finch, who was no genius, primarily coached memphis players his entire career. yet calipari has never even reached the sweet 16 with any of his clubs. finch was a bad call away from the final 4 against ark in the early 90's.

im not doubting what you say. i know you live there. just making a point and offering my opinion. ive always thought he was a decent coach if for no other reason than he has his teams playing hard in conference play. ultimately, it comes down to Ws and Ls, so playing hard doesnt mean much in the end. but i think hes alright. im sure theres probably more to it. but thats the way i see it. jmo
