I intend on starting a thread weekly (when season starts) in which each person gives an outlook for that weeks game and picks the winner ats. We will keep track of records and see who knows their team the best. I thought in doing this it would be nice for all of us to preview our teams and give predictions as to there success this year. Some will be more specific then others but there are a few things I would like all of them to have. 1) Schedule 2) Predicted record (SU) 3) Predicted finish in conference 4) Strengths and weaknesses.

Keep in mind this is public record and you ARE opening yourself to criticism if you step to far out on that limb;)

I will start this with my dawgs. Coming into this season UGA will have to overcome the lose of most of their offensive line as well as their linebacker core. Mark Richt for the first time has gone against his beliefs and brought in juco players that can help immediatly especially on the offensive front. This was a must given the lack of depth at the position. Most of the linbacking core will be filled by those who have been waiting on the sidelines for their chance. Just as years past georgia comes into the year with more running backs than they have carries. Though Sr. Gregg Lumpkin comes into the year as the starter, look for Thomas Brown (returning from ACL tear) and Fr. Knowshon Moreno to get carries early as well. If all I hear is true Moreno will not only be a starter by the end of the year but he is one of the next big timers at rb in college football. So.QB Mathew stafford is the truth. He is a true pocket passer with a rocket for an arm that will throw a lot of touchdowns but will also throw his share of int's due to forcing balls, Recievers are average but will be made to look better by stafford. Defensivly the dawgs will be as good as their linebackers. Brandon miller is a returning starter that will anchor the group that will rely on some new faces. Though not totally green it will take some time for the defense gel. In my opinion this year will be a good one but (here is my limb though a year away) next year I expect an exceptional one. By exceptional I would expect a conference title and a top five team with a title shot hopefully. But that is next year below is how I see this one.

Date Opponent W/L Score
9/1 Ok State W
9/8 South Carolina W
9/15 W. Carolina W
9/22 at Alabama
9/29 Mississippi W
10/6 at Tennessee
10/13 at Vanderbilt W
10/27 at Florida
11/3 Troy W
11/10 Auburn
11/17 Kentucky W
11/24 at Georgia Tech W

Predicted Record- 9-3 ( think they win one of the shrug games above)

Predicted finish- 2nd in sec east

Strengths- RB's,QB,kicking game

Weaknesses- OL,LB,DB's,Overall experience

On a side note I will probably looking at UGA's opponent and the over's in their games early on as I see it taking some time for them to gel and they are in my opinion a little over-rated going into the season. Time will tell now lets hear from your teams.....

New Orleans
LSU .

Prediction: Winner SEC West: I se Aub as being down this year, Arky has to struggle after all the offseason turmoil, and Bama will be improved, but not there yet.

Biggest ??: QB, experience at WR, OL depth, and both safety positions. I question Les Miles' ability on game day.

Strengths: RB, DL, LB, CB and the starting OL.

I posted this the other night in another thread. Hopefully, you find it helpful:

I have been concerned with Matt Flynn's lack of game experience, but for years -- particularly in the Saban era -- I have been told by those close to the program that Matt Flynn is the better QB for this team (over Jamarcus russel) based on his overall decision-making, his ability to think on the move, and his willingness to make 1st downs with his legs. I am hearing very good things about his play this spring and summer, which is why I am gaining confidence in this team heading into the season. Still, Flynn is the #1 concern on this football team, especially because of the new OC after playing under Jimbo Fisher for the past 4 seasons. BTW, I feel that Jimbo Fisher is a great recruiter, but an average OC. I am very pleased to have Crowton.

Despite his 25-4 record as a starter and his excellent record vs ranked opponents, Jamarcus Russel made bad decisions regularly in BIG games. Whether or not he led a comeback victory, he was often the reason the team was behind. If Flynn can do what sometimes proved difficult for Russel, then this team could roll offensively.

Flynn will hand the ball to several quality RBs, who will run behind an excellent starting OL. Keiland Williams appears to me the 1 to look out for as a potential breakout RB, but RB by committee has been the course of action at LSU for years so Scott, Jackson and Hester should also be in the mix. 2-string at OL features VERY little experience and all american candidate Will Arnold has struggled w/ injuries throughout his career. OL depth is a major concern, partially because Saban abandoned the OL in 2 of his last 3 recruiting classes and partially because multiple backup linemen were kicked off of the team this offseason.

WR talent is there, including 5* T Tolliver and former 5* Early Doucet. Doucet played for 3 years behind 2 eventual 1RD draftees, and should have a very good season. By all accounts, Tolliver is a star in the making. Experience is a concern at WR after Doucet. TE's should be solid and deep.

Defensively, I still think the LSU front 7 will be the best in the nation, with the LBs being severely underrated nationally. The playing rotation of DTs and DEs is very impressive. I know I wrote about this LY, but I think Darry Beckwith is the best LB on the team from what I've seen. He is a bit short in stature, but his closing burst is awesome. This will be his Jr season, and I bet he makes a big splash.

The CBs are experienced and solid. Both are willing to step up and put a hat on a ball carrier, but Jackson more-so. Big time losses at safety are a huge ??. Daniels and Landry are gone, and with them a combined 90 starts. I am not sold on Craig Steltz at SS, despite his 4 ints LY and his current status as a hometown hero in New Orleans.

We'll know a bunch more about this team heading into week 3, but as of now, I would look at backing MSU and VT against this LSU team in weeks 1 and 2. Heck, VT +9 looks easy at this point.

I agree with much of what UGA12 stated as far as our strengths and weaknesses. I added Defensive End. So with the OL and DL on the Weaknesses list, my expectations are, unfortunately, much lower than his. Stafford and our RBs could be great, but if they don't have time to let the offense form then how will there be performance?

I have Vandy listed as a win and UK as a loss. This could be flip-flopped, but I do feel that we lose one of these two games.

UGA12 -- I hope I am dead wrong and the season looks more like yours!!

Unfortunetly, i think Clemson is gonna have the same season they have had for the past few years. We'll win a game we aren't supposed to and lose two that we aren't supposed to lose. Another 7-5 or 8-4 season is on the horizon. Poor coaching and/or preperation will be the cause of at least one loss for the year.

I like Clemson on Labor Day vs. Papa Bowden getting the pts and possibly win outright, but I am not confident in the young O-line and QB to stake much on that. Hopefully we can get off to a good start and keep the momentum throughout the year. Good luck everyone!!!!!!

I posted this reply in another thread, but thought I would share my two cents in this thread as well.

Obviously I'm an Alabama fan, but I don't drink the Kool-aid most of the rabids in T-town drink. In my opinion 'Bama should win 8 games this year. If they get lucky, they may sneak up to 9. A stat to remember is that Red Drew and Ray Perkins are the only coaches in the past 60 years to win 8 games in their first season as head coach at Alabama. (Drew 8-3, Whitworth 0-10, Bryant 5-4-1, Perkins 8-4, Curry 7-5, Stallings 7-5, Dubose 4-7, Franchione 7-5, Shula 4-9)

I was looking through the media guide the other day and there were several 2006 stats that surprised me. 'Bama scored 298 points to only 250 for their opposition but only finished 6-7. They also had 51 more first downs than their opponents. Three losses were by a total of 7 points (at Arkansas, at UcheaT and bowl game vs Okie St.).

The most telling stat was the redzone. 'Bama made 53 trips into the redzone and scored only 20 TDs and 20 FGs. Conversely their opponents only made it into the redzone 37 times, but made it count with 21 TDs and 9 FGs.

'Bama allowed 138 points to be scored in the 1st, 3rd and 4th quarters, but had 102 scored upon them in the 2nd quarter.

Sept. 1 Western Carolina WIN
Sept. 8 at Vanderbilt WIN
Sept. 15 Arkansas WIN
Sept. 22 Georgia LOSS
Sept. 29 Florida St LOSS(in Jacksonville)
Oct. 6 Houston WIN
Oct. 13 at Ole Miss WIN
Oct. 20 Tennessee WIN
Nov. 3 LSU LOSS
Nov. 10 at Mississippi St WIN
Nov. 17 UL Monroe WIN
Nov. 24 at Auburn LOSS

Vanderbilt scares me. Bobby Johnson has the 'Dores on the rise and they always play 'Bama tough. Vandy lost a hard fought game by 3 in T-town last season.

Arkansas is another toss up, but 'Bama played them to a 2OT loss in F'ville last year. McFadden is going to be tough to stop, that for should.

I don't know much about UGA, but I do like their coach. They've got a young QB in Stafford and this will be his first road test of the season. 'Bama might get the win since it's played at home.

Florida State could be a toss up as well. Like 'Bama, the 'Noles have a new OC and DC. 'Bama's new DC is Kevin Steele who Saban hired away from FSU.

If the Tide is not careful, they could be caught looking ahead to UcheaT when they travel to Oxford for the Rebels. 'Bama has won the last two meetings by a total of 6 points, including last year in OT.

UcheaT comes to town the next week and this game is always a dogfight. 'Bama has played the Viles tough the last few years but only managed to win once against their hated rivals. For the first time in a long time, UcheaT doesn't have an off week before playing 'Bama (although they are playing Mississippi State, but ask 'Bama about that). Last year, the Tide lost a heart breaker in Obknoxville by 3, despite intercepting three UcheaT passes.

Fortunately the bye week comes leading up to what should be nothing short of a circus atmosphere when LSU comes to town on Nov. 3. I hope I'm wrong, but LSU just looks to be heads and shoulders above everyone else in the conference this year. Emotion can only take you so far and LSU by far has more talent.

Revenge will be on the mind of the Tide when they travel to Starkville to take on the Bulldogs. It's hard to believe that Alabama has not scored an offensive touchdown against Miss. St. since 2004 (although Mike Shula was calling the plays). Unless Sly Croom has his Dogs ready, I don't see a repeat of last year.

What can you say about the Awbies? They've kicked 'Bama square in the nuts 5 years in a row. As much as it pains me, I don't see that changing this year. 4 turnovers last year doomed the Tide. The performance of QB Cox will go a long way towards how the Tigers fare. Having an off week before the 'Bama game will only help not to mention they are playing this game on the Plains.

The bottom line for 'Bama will be to protect QB Wilson better and get to the opposing QB more than once a game. For the first time in recent memory, 'Bama will be focusing more on an aerial attack than a ground game, so giving Wilson time in the pocket is key to the offense's success. 'Bama is returning 14 starters (9 on offense, 5 on defense) from last year and gets most of their tough games at Bryant-Denny this year (Arkansas, UGA, UcheaT and LSU). From everything I'm reading, this will be a tougher and better conditioned 'Bama team this season.

Special teams are often over looked and with the rules change this year on kickoffs, a solid kicker and return game will be more important than ever. The Tide has a darkhorse in Miss. St. transfer Jonathon Lowe who will be running back both punts and kickoffs.

Just my two cents worth. Good luck to everyone this upcoming season.
