Published Dec. 18, 2010 at 11:15 p.m. Zack Greinke will pitch for the Brewers next season, pending a physical. The Brewers have reached a deal with Kansas City for right-hander Zack Greinke Saturday, agreeing to send four players for the former Cy Young Award winner.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Brewers would send the Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain, shortstop Alcides Escobar and prospect pitchers Jake Odorizzi and Jeremy Jeffress for Greinke, who went 10-14 with a 4.17 ERA last season with Kansas City.

The Brewers are expected to receive another "major league" player in the deal, according to the source.

The other major leaguer will be Betancourt.

This is a nice haul for the Royals.

They already had the best prospect system in baseball, now they get the short stop and center fielder they needed.

They also get two nice arms as well. Jeffress is the wild card, if he can get his shit together he could be a steal.

Well being a closet Brewer fan, I would gladly love this trade and need to sign Greinke long term.. Brewers trading prospects like crazy but to get pitcher Marcum and Greinke you have to do it.

Escobar is never going to hit but Cain is a good player but Greinke is the gem. Nice thing about grabbing Marcum and Greinke is that they come out of the AL.

Marcum had a 3.64 era and a whip of 1.15 and now he comes out of the AL east.. He could be a 3.0 pitcher.

A nice 1,2,3 with Greinke, Marcum, and Gallardo..

I have Greinke in my FB Keeper League....This move should increase his stats a ton :0074

This is a nice haul for the Royals.

agree on paper but the problem is the Royals are terrible at player development.

Brewers fans you got a good one. If he gets a bit of offense and isn't frustrated by not having a 'team' behind him, the guy can deal as well as anyone. He's obviously a cerebal guy and will do wonders on a contender.

couldnt believe this when i woke up this morning!!! Cain and escobar will be average hitters at best with above average speed and defensive skills. Jeffress is one strike away from being banned from baseball for life but has good stuff.

This could be our year baby go brewers!!!:00hour :toast:

They have a good amount of players who are at the higher levels who are pretty close to being major league ready.

Moustakas had a huge year last year and is ready to play third this season. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=mousta001mik

Hosmer is a year away from forcing them to move butler to DH http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=hosmer001eri

Prospectus has KC with five 5* prospects no team is close to having that much top tier talent.

Are the other top ranked prospects.

Then you add the prospects they get in the Greinke trade and its not even close who has the best system.

They could use some more arms but they have Alex Gordon and even Billy Butler to dangle in trades to net those pitchers.

I agree they have had problems with developing players but there is just so much incredible depth now that things are bound to turn around.

Alex Gordon isn't going to fetch anyone worthwhile in a trade. And he is example #1 of how they can't develop. He was great early on in the minors, however, it was due to just being stronger and instincts. Club personnnel knew there were issues with his swing but declined to address due to the early success he was having (in AA). It is know obvious that not addressing the issues then has lead to Gordon being labeled a bust as he is far from producing what a high first rounder out of college should.
