  • George Zimmerman Tells Trayvon ?

<!-- yog-5u -->
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><root></root>A new photograph obtained exclusively by ABC News showing the bloodied back of George Zimmerman's head, which was taken three minutes after he shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, gives possible credence to his claim that Martin had bashed his head against the concrete as he fought for his life.
Click here to view the image. Warning: graphic content.
The revelation comes as his attorney and prosecutors prepare for Zimmerman's bail hearing today, which could result in his being released from jail. Zimmerman, 28, is being held on charges of second-degree murder for the Feb. 26 shooting of Martin, which could carry a life sentence if he is convicted.
The exclusive image shows blood trickling down the back of George Zimmerman's head from two small cuts. It also shows a possible contusion forming on the crown of his head. The original police report that night notes that the back of Zimmerman's head was wet, and that he was bleeding from the nose and head.
Zimmerman told police that night that he shot and killed the teenager in self-defense after Martin punched him and pounced on him. Zimmerman told police that Martin then bashed his head into the concrete sidewalk during the altercation that took place in the tidy middle-class development of the Retreat at Twin Lakes in Sanford, Fla.
Zimmerman was treated at the scene by paramedics, then cuffed and driven in a police cruiser to the Sanford police station. He was questioned for hours and later released. In police surveillance video obtained last month by ABC News Zimmerman's wounds are not apparent, and there were no bandages on his head.
Zimmerman was not admitted to a hospital or given stitches the night of the incident.
The photographer told ABC News exclusively that they did not see the scuffle that night, but did hear it. The source saw Martin's prostrate body on the wet grass and claims the gunpowder burns on Martin's gray hoodie were clearly visible; the gunpowder marks could show that Martin was shot at very close range.
The photographer says that after the shooting Zimmerman asked to call his wife. When the photographer asked what to say, Zimmerman allegedly blurted out "man, just tell her I shot someone."
ABC News has learned that investigators have seen the photo.
"How bad could it have been if they didn't take him to the hospital [and] didn't stitch him up," Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump said in a statement to ABC News in response to the image. "The special prosecutor has seen all the evidence and still believes George Zimmerman murdered Trayvon Martin."
Zimmerman's attorney Mark O'Mara says his client has spent enough time behind bars.
"He needs to get out. He should not be in jail," O'Mara said. "I want him out because I need him out. He wants to get out. His family wants it out. It should happen."
If Zimmerman is released, his attorney tells ABC News that he has a number of potential safe houses prepared. In the meantime O'Mara says the former altar boy, who has become America's highest profile defendant, has been reading the Bible while in protective custody.
In a bail hearing in Florida, the burden of proof to deny bail, even in a second degree murder trial, is higher than necessary to seek a conviction in a trial.
"They would have to prove that the presumption of guilt is great, and that the proof is evident," said O'Mara.
In the capias -- similar to a warrant -- filed against Zimmerman last week, Special Prosecutor Angela Corey and her team set bail at "none." In order to reduce that to bail at a set monetary sum, Corey's team would have to essentially prove their case -- something experts tell ABC News is unlikely at this point in the legal process.
O'Mara said he doubts the prosecutor will reveal their case before trial, even before discovery

I don't know exactly what happened other than what I've read and heard. I wasn't there. Neither were any of you, but it's clear what you think happened, and IMO it's pretty clear why. But to one of the glossed over points that I think should matter here - Zimmerman called in a suspicious character report, right? And he was told specifically NOT to approach the kid, the police would be there to handle it. Zimmerman decided not to listen to law enforcement and took the situation (which wasn't a situation at all, right?) to another level by instigating the situation between the two.

There has to be some ownership of that, doesn't there? I think most "libs" (as you put it) here probably would have listened to law enforcement and not accosted the "suspect." Which would have prevented the whole thing, right? I'm not purely a lib, but lean that way on many occasions. I'd like to think I look objectively at most things first, and I think many here do the same thing. I think you can tell by the writing and opinions that come out, who does and who doesn't.

Now, what happened in the confrontation should definitely be a part of the case and trial if there is one. Self defense should probably be a part of the defense strategy and probably has a big role in the scenario. No doubt Zimmerman felt secure in doing what he did because he had a gun. I can probably understand using it if he was getting his ass kicked, and it looks like he might have been. But to shoot someone point blank in the chest is a pretty tough thing, too. He starts the whole thing, when he was told not to by law enforcement, gets his ass kicked, shoots someone in the chest at close range, and kills them. IMO, there's plenty worth looking at in that situation, and it's probably worthy of a trial.

Is he guilty of something? I don't know. I'm guessing a trial will bring out some of the truth.

Here's something else I wonder about. I don't know much about Martin or Zimmerman. Was Zimmerman a respected part of the community? Was he acting in a normal situation for that neighborhood? Did others appreciate him or was he a vigilante-type? I honestly don't know, I'm wondering. Have not had much time to look at any of this. I think there has been plenty of impropriety in much of this "case." From the original investigator (who recommended Zimmerman be charged) being let go to the sheriff, etc. Now there seems to be new stuff coming out. We'll probably learn more about this. I think most libs here are asking questions and wondering what happened. I think the handful of righties and and always were thinking Trayvon "had it coming" and should have been shot and killed. And I think I know why some of them think that, but that's nothing new here, or elsewhere.

And I cannot stand Jackson, Sharpton, et al. Truly race baiters that profit from their role as "leaders" and "spokespeople" for any "cause" they can get out in front of. It cheapens any situation when they become a part of things.

Here's some biographical info on Zimmerman. Some interesting things in here...

What does he do for a living?
At the time he shot Martin, Zimmerman was working as an underwriter at mortgage risk-management firm Digital Risk. He had also been working on an associates degree at Seminole State College from 2009, with an eye toward law enforcement, until the school pushed him out after the shooting, citing safety reasons. In 2008, Zimmerman completed a 14-week citizens' police academy program offered by the Seminole Sheriff's Department. Zimmerman has also worked in the past as an insurance agent, and at used-car seller CarMax.

Has he had any previous run-ins with the law?
Yes, both as a victim and suspect. In 2001, Zimmerman was the victim of an unspecified minor criminal assault in Manassas. In 2005, he was arrested after a shoving match with a cop. A month later, he entered into a domestic violence dispute with ex-fianc?e Veronica Zauzo; it was settled with a mutual restraining order.

What else do we know about Zimmerman?
He registered as a Democrat in 2002, according to The Washington Free Beacon. Craig Sonner, Zimmerman's lawyer, told CNN that his client had recently mentored a young black boy, taking him out to play basketball and helping raise money for the boy's church.

And what about this neighborhood watch business?
Admirers and critics in the neighborhood agree that Zimmerman was a dedicated neighborhood watch volunteer ? he called 911 at least 46 times in the past six years, complaining about everything from unruly children at the pool to uncollected trash to open garages, but his recent calls focused on what he deemed suspicious characters, most of them black. Zimmerman was key in starting the neighborhood watch program, which was set up with help from the Sanford Police Department and not affiliated with the national Neighborhood Watch organization.

The Newton County Sheriff?s Office is investigating why a couple was confronted at gunpoint by neighbors and then arrested and forced to spend the night in jail when they tried to move into the home they had just purchased.

The Kalonji family had just closed on a foreclosed home and were told by their real estate agent they should go over to the house and change the locks.

But when Jean Kalonji and his wife, Angelica, started working at the home, an armed man and another person who appeared to be the man?s son allegedly confronted them.

?He say to put the hands up and get out from the house, otherwise he would shoot us,? the husband told Channel 2.

The neighbors didn?t believe the couple when they told them they had bought the home and called the Newton County Sheriff?s Office. The Kalonjis didn?t have the closing papers with them, so deputies arrested them, charged them with loitering and prowling and took them to jail.

Yvette Harris, the couple?s real estate agent, said they never should have been arrested.

?They rightfully own this house,? Harris said.

Kalonji, who grew up in the Congo, said the experience brought back painful memories.

?There, they put me down with the gun to my head, and come here, the same,? he said.

Mark Mitchell, spokesman for the Newton Sheriff?s Office, said authorities are ?looking into it, exactly what occurred, why it occurred.?

A person at the neighbors? house said no one wanted to talk to Channel 2 about the incident.
..................................................................

Newton Cty is a predominantly white county about 90 miles from Atlanta

nice to have neighbors that will make sure foreclosed homes are not looted.

or was it something else ?

maybe they didnt want them as neighbors

it never really stops in America

Metro Assault Victim Says Transit Police Were Slow to Respond

In yesterday's Post opinion section, a Metro rider recounted a bizarre and violent incident he suffered a few weeks ago when he was assaulted by another passenger aboard a Blue Line train, but then nearly left in the lurch when Transit Police were slow to respond.

Kurtis Hiatt had to go into his office in the external relations department of George Washington University on Saturday, March 31, to help cover a Clinton Global Initiative event at the school that weekend. He boarded at the Stadium-Armory station about 7 a.m. Like most early-morning trains on a random weekend, it was not very crowded. As he usually does on Metrorail, Hiatt, 23, sat down and listend to some music on his iPhone.

But on the other end of the car, he recounted, another passenger was screaming "Fuck the white man! Fuck the white man!" and attracting Hiatt's and everyone else's attention. As he wrote in the Post:

The man?s yells reverberated through the Metrorail car, breaking the quiet typical of an early-morning ride. I turned down the music on my iPhone. What was that? ?[Fuck] the white man!? he screamed again. My fellow Blue Line riders and I looked around uneasily. I couldn?t see the man, but I did note that I seemed to be one of very few white men in the car. Still, I brushed it off. It?s not unusual to encounter crazy behavior while riding Metro. Rarely do things turn serious. As the train arrived at L?Enfant Plaza, I briefly considered switching cars. I didn?t.

As the train left L'Enfant Plaza, the disturbing passenger stood directly in front of Hiatt and demanded his attention. "He got down at face level within an inch of my face and screamed, 'Look at me'," Hiatt told DCist in a phone interview. From there, with the train barreling toward Smithsonian, things turned violent.

Seemingly unprovoked, the man head-butted and punched Hiatt before Hiatt could push him away and the man could be restrained by other passengers. But one woman's efforts to alert the conductor via the car's emergency button went unheeded. At Smithsonian, the doors opened and Hiatt's attacker bolted out. Hiatt and two other passengers gave chase, stopping briefly to alert the conductor, but again to no apparent success.

Upstairs from the platform, Hiatt watched his attacker jump the turnstile as he tried to approach the on-duty station manager. Hiatt couldn't tell if the station manager was alerting police, so he called 911 himself. But when the dispatcher heard he was calling from a Metrorail station he was transferred from Metropolitan Police Department to Transit Police.

Hiatt and the two other riders followed their assailant outside, where the man eventually settled on a bench at 14th Street and Independence Avenue SW after tossing his shoes into the street and hurling more exclamations into the morning air. An ambulance arrived first, but Hiatt said he did not need medical treatment. The paramedics alerted MPD, which arrived a few minutes later, just as a Transit Police car finally pulled up about 15 minutes after the assault. The responding Transit Police officer had arrived from Alexandria, giving Hiatt something of a jurisdictional head-scratcher.

"Presumably the dispatcher was aware of this," Hiatt wrote in his op-ed. "How could she not seek an alternative to a full 15-minute wait, especially after I pleaded with her to do so? It made me feel as if my emergency was laughably minor."

Transit Police arrested the man at 7:21 a.m. for assault and battery.

Hiatt said he received a phone call Sunday night from a deputy to Transit Police Chief Michael Taborn, who said he'd look into both the assault and why it took so long for Transit Police officers to respond. Taborn did not respond for this article, but Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said the station manager at Smithsonian was in fact the first person to alert Transit Police of the March 31 assault.

In the mean time, Hiatt said he remains a loyal Blue Line commuter, as driving from his Hill East neighborhood to his office in Foggy Bottom is both cost-prohibitive and impractical. But he's become a bit more vigilant on the train, and is working with the popular blog Unsuck D.C. Metro to solicit other riders' stories of being the victims of random assaults on Metrorail.

He might not have to look that far. Quite memorably in January 2011, a man standing on the platform at L'Enfant Plaza was assaulted by a group of teenagers who filmed the assault and posted it to YouTube.

Hiatt said what happened to him "makes you stop and think."

"I wasn?t on the train at three in the morning drunk from a night out," he said. "I was commuting to work." Hiatt said, not irrationally, that he expected Metrorail would have some kind of standard operating procedure to react to an instance of one passenger attacking another. But what he experienced was far from that.

"It was a major fail on their part," he said.
