Zona St minus under double digits over Rutgers *****
Love Zona St today over my NJ boys.
I'll start out by saying although I haven't posted any college football games because of college hoops going on I'm 2-4.Won with Memphis and Toledo.Lost the rest...
But today is my favorite game.
There is so much info and opinions on this game.
Zona offense is ranked 3rd in passing,4th total,etc,etc. 4,000 passing yds,1000yds rushing,etc,etc,Carpenter,Herring,etc,etc,
There OL is big and can protect.Game breaker kick returner, etc, etc.
Suns defense is ranked 114th out of 117th.But you heard it 100 times, had USC 21-3 at half.Almost beat LSU,Oregon and UCLA.
Rutgers has a good running attack.Leonard, the fullback that runs like a halfback.Rice NY Pl of the Yr in HS has 1000 rushing yds.Hart the Qb who has 3 solid WR's is still inconsistent. Was benched 2 or 3 times this yr because of interceptions.
Schaino will run, run, run and throw. So preditcable. But thats how they got here. There defense led the nation in sacks but look who they played.Villanova,Buffalo,Cuse,Illi,Cincy,etc.The 2 quality teams they played Louisville and West Vir they lost by 53 and 13.They did beat Navy and Pitt. But then So Fl at the end of the season exposed there weakness's and beat them 45-31.
Rutgers defense cannot stop the high powered Pac-10 offense.Carpenter with his big OL will have time to throw. And the Rutgers scecondary are all undersized. These Sun Devils are big.
Ru's only way to win is ball possesion and keeping the ball out of Zonas offense.
It won't happen. This game is a home game for Zona St being played in Phoenix.
Could be a high scoring game.Sun players have had the flu bug this week. But that could be the only thing that stops a Hagan who will catch a few Td's and frosh RB Herring.
If Zona gets out ahead like I think then Schaino cannot use his ground game attack playing catchup.Zona defense might be 114th in the nation but with Hart at QB Sun boys will be salivating.
Rutgers played only one high powered passing offense. That was Louisville.Last I heard they won 56-5.
But if you recall that was the game the Rutgers players came out and trampled the Cardinal logo before the game.I had Louisville that day.I knew it was over before the coin toss.
I hope there is a big Sun Devil logo out there on the 50.Just maybe they will do it again.lol But I really don't think they have too.
Strong play Zona over Rutgers *****

Again thank you all in helping out with Herb Larkins.I'll give everyone an update today. We expect many letters to arrive today.

Many on Rutgers.I think the flu bug might have something to do with it.
Zona OL is huge and has protected Carpenter. Can't see Rutgers getting a good pass rush. Since carpenter took over at QB he has thrown 13 td's and 2 ints.Again Rutgers secondary are not big guys.Rutgers pass defense was 2nd worst in the Big east.Richardson,Hagan H-back Burg.. are 6'1,6'2 and 6'5.
I see a big mismatch there.Leonard and Rice will be sucessful in running the ball but Zona St does have MLB Robinson known as "manimal".He was Def Pl of the yr in the Pac-10.
I know Zona St Bowl record isn't the greatest. But Rutgers is happy to be playing in a bowl game.Sun Devils have been here. This is a Disney trip for Rutgers.
This is the team that knocked down there goal posts after becoming bowl elgible. They barly got in.And in last 2 of 3 games they get pasted 45-31 and 56-5.
Zona St wins this 45-21 or 55-24.
GL..

I kinda agree Box and I played ASU-9 for a small play... the only thing that held me back from making it a bigger play is that that ASU's D isn't all that good and the fact that ASU has allowed 34 sacks this season while Rutgers D has put the Qb down 46 times...plus the flu bug thing...i still think ASU wins by at least 10 and covers the spread.

Good Luck!

The flu stories are way over blown. This was old news and as I hear it no one wlll be affected. Most of those that had it were reserves. Only 4 starters had it and all are well. Don't believe everything you read on Covers.

Anybody know how many tickets ASU has sold or how ASU is approaching the game?

ASU is clearly superior, but are inconsistant. If they come out fired up in front of a big home crowd, they should kill Rutgers. But I worry about motivation. Rutgers will be fired up without a doubt (My father's an alum coming out from the east coast - still kicking himself for missing the '78 Bowl Game) and ASU has a tendency to lack focus at times and playing to the level of the oppenent. Playing Rutgers may cause ASU to take it lightly.

I think the mind frame of ASU is the biggest factor in the game and biggest question mark. Anybody hear anything from local papers on attendence, etc?

So. Cal
i like the rutgers under 28 points at Pinny myself. Thanks for the advice box and others. My opinion is that ASU is so inconsistent and Dirk utter is strictly an offensive coach and does not have to worry about defense or at least he doesnt period. The reason why I like the rutgers under is because ASU D is tough but they are slow except at corners. But they know how to stop one or the other, run or pass but not both. Teams that beat them this year were very balanced, cept for SC which got pounded in the first cause they never ran it and then ran all over ASU in the 2nd. ASU will stop rutgers by loading up the box and i dont see rutgers throwing over ASU.
