Wolverines look smart to me: an unexperienced QB next year so why not break him in against easier competition before conference play begins? If the situation was reversed, I dare say USC would do the same but instead they should be loaded so of course they are looking to play some big competition early.

Its not like Michigan DUCKS (no pun intended) competition from outside their conference year in and year out

Smart teams pick their spots.

I know I'm joining this wonderful thread late in the game, but I just want to congratulate Scott on being the most moronic homer on a site chock full of them.

Your team plays in a weak conference and lost TO CAL for gawd's sake! Get over it. You have no argument.

Now Nickelback, I know Scott is getting on people's nerves, but USC took an untested QB into what was thought to be a very tough Auburn team in a very hostile environment. Doesnt that say USC would not skip the game?

USC started a soph. QB this year with ZERO prior game experience. GUESS WHAT! USC wanted to play Miami before Auburn. YEP! USC wanted to play Miami in August then go play Auburn right after. Last year at the Heisman ceremony USC contacted Miami and asked them and they declined. USC contacted them again few months later they declined again. USC just contacted Miami again this year to play next year, they also declined "again."

SO not only did USC open @ AU (pre-season top 5 and hostile environment) USC tried to also schedule MIAMI. Also add that USC 3/4 OOC opponents were bowl teams last year. Not USC fault they tanked and it might cost USC a NC. USC is one of the very few teams in the nation who is not afraid of compeition anytime anywhere.

You could not be more wrong Nickelback.

Ok, so USC isn't afraid to play anybody (I was giving them too much credit thinking they had a smart staff, AD, etc). . . they will eventually turn into Notre Dame. What do I mean by this? Well, Notre Dame continually plays one of the toughest schedules around and look what happened: they started to lose games. . . they started to lose recruits. . . and the program is in a downspiral. Laugh all you want Scott. . . good teams look at the big picture. . . although playing all tough competition and highly ranked teams would be fun, it doesn't pay off in the long run.

You have to know when to pick your spots. . . Michigan and Miami were smart with their decisions. . . its not because they are scared. Michigan had to decide what was best for their development before the Big 10: play USC which could potentially kill their entire season or start easy and build momentum into conference play which is all they care about anyways?

I'll give USC a little credit since they are willing to go after anyone. . . they have balls but they could get bitten off in the long run just as the case with Notre Dame.

You have a good point with ND (who like USC plays anybody anywhere) but I don't know if you follow recruiting but USC is out-recruiting everyone in the nation right now. This USC team we are talking about is being led by underclassman and Carroll is just loading it up with more talent. It really is scary what Pete Carroll is doing with the USC program. Very scary. USC is getting to the point where they don't care who they play.

For example, 2 best players in the state of Ohio are looking at USC. Davis (top 3 WR in nation) and Ginn (#1 DB in nation), and from what i have been told, 1 of them (Davis) already gave a silent verbal to Carroll and maybe both will be coming to USC. High school stars NEVER leave the state of Ohio. Its pretty amazing.

FIGHT ON!!!!!!!
