I had taken a nap today and had just waken up. I had just found out that my twin boy and girl, who are 5, had just destroyed my bedroom!!!

They ripped my curtains and the crossbar down from my wall. Mind you that the bar and brackets are all metal, so in pulling them down, they left scratches all over my wall. And the house was just built last April. My computer chair was facing the wall where I had hung up 5 pictures and they too were all torn down from my wall. My kids have never acted this way before. I don't know what got into them. I guess they were swinging from my curtains when they ripped down. So, I had to get in front of the computer to type before I did something I might regret. Has this ever happened to anyone?????

Need money for repair? Bet the Mavericks tomorrow. Just kidding. I suck.

Sorry to hear about what happened. Just keep this in mind though...material things can be replaced, but your children's feelings can't be bought. Go easy on them. Always give them a hug after your little lecture.

Go Mavs!

I'll bet you have never disciplined them prior to this incident. Another case of no corporal punishment. :mj07:

I'm a single parent and work graveyard. I am no dead beat parent. I have custody for my children and not my ex. My kids mean the world to me. I don't do drugs or anything of that matter. And I only took a 45 min nap. The sad part about it is that I'm a light sleeper and usually hear and wake up to the slightest pin drop. But my door to my bedroom was closed and apparently my kids were trying to swing on my curtains. My bedroom is large enough to where I let my kids play in there and they have their own picnic table and toy box in there also. That is why I'm in shock. They've never done anything like that ever. They're great kids and WELL behaved. Now as far as them taking down my pictures, I'm at a total loss. I've always taken naps before and the kids have always kept themselves entertained either by watching tv, coloring, drawing, etc...My kids, however love to swing on things. I guess that's my fault for not realizing that. I have probably given them too much freedom to do what they want. I guess it's time to change a few rules.

Chops,

Rules - Children must obey the rules.
Boundaries - Children must not go out of bounds.
Limits - Children must not exceed the limits.

As a parent, I was far too comprimising and learned the hard way.

Btw,

It's fairly normal behavior for 5 year olds to pull curtains and hardware off the wall. Lots of energy with twin 5 year olds. I wouldn't reward them, but I think I'd try and be cool about it.

You know, vinnie, you're not in my situation, and you're a dick for saying that, but you are right. I deserve what I got. Nobody's fault but mine. I chalk it up to a learning experience. So, thanks for being a jerk off and stating the obvious.

buddy,cavy1 and Cryboy...thanks alot fellas.

vinnie, did you have to think long and hard for that last response? You know, man, I shouldn't have to get a babysitter if I want to take a nap in my own house with my children there. I think Wilson hit the nail right on the head about disciplining my children. I am far too lenient on them and should start setting some rules. One, they are no longer allowed in my room. I had them move all their toys and their picnic table into their rooms. They are such well behaved kids that setting certain rules never came across my mind. I was livid earlier, but now I'm calm. Why don't you go and annoy someone else's thread like your best friend beantownjim. I know he misses you.
