Jack, I have never smoked, but because of my injury and paralysis breathing has been a problem for the last year or so. Several times a day I have to use a nebulizer and bi-pap machine to sleep and sometimes in the day. As well as take various medications. I wish you all the luck in the world. --- breathing difficulties & problems are serious business. Something we take for granted so effortlessly when it becomes problematic, believe me nothing is worse or provides more panic, than being unable to breathe from.

I truly wish you all the will power possible to make you successful.

Hope this will be an incentive. June 2, 1981, walking home with my 6 year old son and dropped my left arm and hit his arm with my cigarette. After apologizing profusely, he says "that's ok dad, I know you can't help it. I threw the cigarette down and never touched another one. This is a guy who smoked for 30 years, would wake up in the middle of the night to take a leak and light up. So much for the success story.
Its not easy by any means, but it is doable. Go for it. You will be able to taste your food, smell like a human being and tons of other
good stuff. I wish you all success.

Prepping for combat:
switched brands - Marlboro to Camel -YUK
cut down from 1.5 packs a day to 2 packs so far this week (1/2 pack left) - traveling so I get non smoking rooms and have to go outside to smoke - snowing in Beantown right now (I live in Texas) and do NOT smoke when with clients (8AM -5PM).
Got my gum (4mg Nicorette Mint flavor)
Cut down on Coffee - (usually a pot a day)
wrapping my mind around the fact that it will be tough - carry picture of my family and when the urge occurs I will remind myself not to be so selfish (they want me around!)

Forgot to add - my first time in Beantown and kudos to BeanTown Jim - Legal Seafoods chowda ROCKS!!!!!

Jack, You have a list of 15 or so people going along with you. That's fantastic! If half of you make it, that will be a victory. Good Luck to all of you and stick together. You can do it!!!!

Good Luck. We will need it.

On a serious note: Whoever is quitting by patch, I HIGHLY recommend putting on a patch BEFORE you sleep. When you wake up, the cravings will be a LOT LESS!!!!! I quit (I mean stopped) for 20 days a few months ago and I patched BEFORE I slept. When I woke up it was MUCH easier! Very few cravings because the nicotine is still in your system. I have tried both ways and patching before sleeping is SOOO much easier!!!!

You will dream some weird shit too!

Good Luck to Everyone quiting! (Still waiting for KC Wolf) :D

I started smoking at 14. My Mother, dad, sister, and brother died of cancer. That didn't stop me from smoking. I tried many times to stop. I smoked three packs a day. I was in my own business. I quit when I was 50. I am now 58 and hadn.t smoked since I quit. I can breathe and smell again. I took the patches and cut off straws the length of cigirettes and smoked the straws. It's the habit of having something in your fingers too. Good luck on quitting.....

I am soooo ready. Just smoked the last one and immediately tossed away my ashtrays and lighters. They are gone. I have my Nicorette gum to get me through the next few weeks and also joined a support group at Brown University that will actually pay me for the privilege of interviewing me and charting my progress. My first phone session with them is tomorrow night at 6:30.

I guarantee my success. I am truly excited to be on my way to freedom from this God awful addiction.
