Like most people I haven't been a Barry lover throughout this quest either. However, when I saw that Hank Aaron was ceremoniously passing the torch to Barry I put the remote down and applauded one last time for Hammerin' Hank. It was clearly a classy move and if the commissioner isn't going to do anything about the steroid issue (and he hasn't in Barry's case), I am going to join Aaron in congratulating the new Home Run King, Barry Bonds.
I'm also glad I got to watch it on live television. This is one of those memorable historic baseball moments that I will always remember ranking up there with the night in St. Louis that McGwire hit #62 against the Cubs and a few weeks later when he connected for #70. When Pete Rose got a hit on the Astroturf at Riverfront Stadium against Eric Show. When Cal passed Lou Gehrig (and homered twice in the same game). When Randy Johnson through a perfect game at the Atlanta Braves. When Kirk Gibson hit the grand slam against Eckersley in the World Series. Baseball memories.
