I live in Las Vegas NV, where you can bet on anything. They even have slots in the 7-11's. What they don't have is a lottery. That is because the casinos think that if there is a lottery that would take money away from them. Lotteries are state run, this shows how crooked the state government is, who runs the state, the government or the casinos?

Anyway, that lottery money that would have stayed in the state now goes to CA or AZ, to their school system. When we in Las Vegas want to play Powerball or Mega millions we have to drive to the stateline at Primm or Littleton AZ, 40 and 80 miles.

This is a site i just found that you can play the lotteries online. Fast and easy. The Powerball jackpot is 200 million this Saturday, Hey why not.

You don't really believe it goes to the school system do you?

Uh, any clue about Georgia!?

Georgia's HOPE (Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally) program was the flagship lottery scholarship program, and its success is phenomenal. HOPE provides tuition, mandatory fees, and $300 book allowances per school year to Georgia high school graduates enrolled in degree programs and maintaining at least a "B" average at Georgia's public colleges, universities, and technical institutes. For students who graduated fro m Georgia's high schools and are attending private colleges and universities within the state, HOPE provides $3,000 scholarships.

I shouldn't have been so broad in my statement. I'm sure it works in many states but the ciphoning off of dollars for other projects is what I meant. The millions of dollars that state lotteries are pulling in and the high school taxes indicate that a lot of the money is going elsewhere.

I wonder what the ratio of monies taken in and monies given to education in Georgia really are?

Who cares what it gets siphoned off to? Something is better than nothing for education. If they siphon it off for transportation, hookers or whatever that's just money that would have been skimmed off of something else. I'd rather morons who play the lottery fund all of this than have my taxes increased.

I agree with you but it is misleading for the lottery commision to say that the money is for education when for the most part it goes into other projects. It's misleading to say it's going to help the kids when for the most part it goes to other places.

I would like to see them put 100% into the school system for books, lunches, and rebuilding but you and I both know it will never happen.

Well schools in NV get $0.00 from lotteries. I hope they raise the taxes on the casinos.

Your taxes are being increased, gas, power, food. Products we use everyday. So morons play the lottery? Do morons pay taxes? Where does your tax money go? Would you rather pay 10 billion a month for the Iraq war, or would you want that money to go to American education?

you should read this book: Free lunch.

How the wealthiest Americans enrich themselves at government expense and stick you with the bill.

Johnston, a New York Times investigative reporter, has spent his 40-year career exposing collusion between government officials and private sector entities as they enrich the rich and ignore consequences for middle-class laborers and the poor. In Perfectly Legal, he focused on hidden inequities in the tax system. This volume is a broader examination of collusion and unfairness, ranging from subsidies for professional sports stadiums to secret payouts to multinational corporate chief executives. At the base of Johnston's journalistic indictment are the highly paid lobbyists working Congress, state legislatures, county commissions, city councils and government regulatory agencies. Johnston also cites the culpability of George W. Bush in his roles as professional baseball team owner, Texas governor and U.S. president, and targets well-known tycoons such as Donald Trump, Warren Buffett and George Steinbrenner as well as lesser-recognized beneficiaries who own golf courses and insurance companies and energy consortiums. Heroes appear occasionally, such as Remy Welling, an Internal Revenue Service investigator who blew the whistle on improper tax breaks for the wealthy and lost her job. Johnston writes compellingly to show how government-private sector collusion affects the middle class and the poor. (Jan.)

On the course!
Winning the lottery is tough enough. Paying $2 for a $1 is just an extra kick in the balls.

Besides, you guys don't want to do something illegal!

No Jack I just don't sit here and give you handjobs all day like half of the other people here. Only to have you treat your "buddies" one way and the rest of the posters the other.

I'm condescending? People say some ridiculous stuff around here like "yeah i wonder how much the lottery will go to education", all the while states like Georgia have amazing programs for kids from lottery tax.

I guess life would be easier if I was just ignorant and blamed the government for all of my problems.

What do you want from me Jack, to agree with everyone on here? Wish everyone a "good game" or whatever else it takes?

I've contributed for quite a few years here at your site and while I may definitely be strongly opinionated, for the most part I followed your rules Jack. Don't forget it's people like me who's hits to your site put dollars in your pockets. I guess you have so many posters here you couldn't give two shits. All the while some of your buddies on here treat people like shit and you just look the other way.

Is there any wonder that 90% of the quality posters over the years have left Jack? I guess you thought it was just them.

Saint calm down man it's just a simple discussion. People have different views on every subject. I just don't think the money that was to go to education is being allocated to the original proposals.
