Is it just me or has the basic business premise of providing a service for a fee GONE? More and more I see where airlines want to charge for making reservations, charge for bags needed for your clothes, seat selection fees, extra to speak to an individual vs computer scheduling (also a fee for this use), and now you check yourself in via kiosk at the airport! Just what is it I'm paying for, the priviledge of flying? JMHO

everyone has to make a buck its the American way, your other choices are to drive, ride a bike or walk. ;)

I agree its bullshit addons that piss me off too, just build it into the price when you book your flight. I am sure most people reserve their flight through the internet, I hate talking to people when I book flights, I like going on their website and booking, checking in at a kiosk is no big deal either. If you talk to someone you are lucky to get someone that speaks English anyway.

Pay more get less....

Pay more get less....

PA woman walks thru with fake ID

so safe now aday because they charge more for all the security and do less because the staff is shortened and have too much security detail to cover so no longer can they "help" the customer..

I want to whole heartedly apologize for any additional ten to twenty five bucks that have passed on your way and the inconvenience it has caused you. I can only imagine how horrible it must be to dig that money out of your pocket when you can find a cheaper rate online. Nevernind that this country was built on the foundation of the industrial revolution. Nevermind that AA is the only airline to continue to do its maintenance inside of its own borders. Pay no attention to the fact that noone cares that the country is going to shit and the only thing you can do about it is to try to give a fuck. I know its hard and if you don't agree then I appreciate your position, just make a new positition outside of where you were born.

Hope this helps.

I always sort of shake my head when I see/hear comments like Lookn4help?s. If you want to be treated like a rock star then pony up the $$$ buy a first class ticket none of those ?extra? fees apply (BTW the service is fantastic) and if you want to continue to fly from LAX-JFK for $250 then suck it up. I always get a kick of watching my fellow passenger?s board and you have 150 people thinking it?s all about me and it?s usually the schmucks who fly 1-2 times per year who complain the most. A great example is the following link: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/30938294/ some stupid bitch decides to get up on a bumpy flight to use the head and gets hurt and now wants to sue (the seat belt light is on for a reason)?I don?t get it. Personally I am in awe when I can get up in the morning fly thousands of miles for a meeting and be home in time for dinner, pretty freaking cool if you ask me. FDC it?s been a while and I hope all is well with your family but have a question about your comment ? COA/SWA/UA etc., outsources all of their maint? If so to whom and where (is there a list online)?

Or you can get your pilot license. (Then lease or buy a plane)

I don't think the "bitch" is about the cost per se, but how they go about it. (And I know it happens to some extent in a lot of businesses)

Don't tell me I have a flight for $199, and then it turns out my cost is $287.

Seriously. Wouldn't it be nice to have the ability to pay that $287 right off the bat, and that be the end of it?

Maybe the flyers can play that game to? I have a flight coming up in two weeks, that I booked three months ago. The airline changed that flight on me twice, since I booked. I should get money back for that.

When the plane pulls away from the gate late, I should get money for that.

When it arrives late, I should get money for that.

Now, my $287 flight has been discounted to $199.

Seems fair to me.

I think the problem is with how the airlines are going about this. They have a history of being able to operate behind the curtain, and today's world doesn't allow for that -- and they can't seem to adjust.

When booking a flight, there should be the discounted rate listed. This price is for people who want to book online, check in via a kiosk, and have exactly ONE carry-on bag that actually meets the guidelines.

Everything else should be listed out under the discounted rate with the exact amount of money you are going to be asked to pay and you have the option to accept those and pay for them now. If you deny those options during online booking and choose them at the airport, they should probably have a 10-20% increase in price.

They have to stop thinking the consumer is too ignorant to know they're basically being lied to (or not being completely forthright with).

BTW, the airlines are not the ones who decided to "beef up" the airport security.

BTW, flying is a convenience. If you don't want to pay for it, don't use it.

BTW, flying is cheap as feck all things considered.

Ok and every time you bother an agent to change your seat assignment it should cost you then by your standards. Every time you run up at the last minute, every time you ask for an additional pillow that you didn't grab on the way to your seat. It isn't the mean old airline driving your price up dude. Just like it isn't the baseball player that increases costs to a game every year. Alas I am tired and don't give a shit about it anymore. I know the fate of the American worker. Too late, so will every one else.

agreed. Good point and so was YYZ and I am not sure how you fix that. I work with and talk with Gerard Arpey(CEO of AA) on a weekly basis and have talked to him numerous times about the "business" side of things like this and the issue ranges even deeper than he can reach to be quite honest. Gas prices aren't hedged and you get fluctuating costs. Long story short, it sucks to have all the hidden costs and I wish I could change it but I wish people would stop buying foreign born electronics, cars, appliance etc... too.

I like how the question about Airlines and their fees receive an answer that concerns the fate of the American worker and the foundation of the industrial revolution. :mj07:

They could EASILY fix many of their public image problems with about a $50-100K budget on their website. BUT they would have to stay the feck out of the way of people that understand today's consumer and how they expect things to be presented and delivered via the web.

NOTE: Increase that number to at least $1MM if they won't get out of the way and force their stodgy bureaucratic ways onto the team that can fix their problems.

NOTE2: Let him know I'm for hire and can assemble the correct team with four weeks notice. :)
