i think i have an eye infection

first, i never take my contacts out. i know, i know, but i've been doing it for ~ 6 years, never a problem. average life in my eye without ever taking them out is about 6 months.

anyway, on tuesday, my right contact just popped out for no reason. i put it back in and about 4 hours later my eye started to hurt like hell. wife told me i might have an infection and this time i believed her and took it out for the night.

next morning the pain was gone. no redness, not itchy, no watering BUT my vision was all fcuked up. i couldn't even see with glasses on (VERY blurry) and there is no visual symptoms on the eye

today, i still have the vision problem but glasses help a little. so i'll say a slight improvement but still pretty bad. still no pain or any other symptoms.

i'm thinking of waiting until tomorrow to see if there is more improvement before seeing a doctor.

anybody else ever experience this or have any ideas of WTF is going on?

TIA :D

Not sure what is going on there, but I assume you are wearing either a accuvue or surevue lens?

I used to do the same thing. I wore contacts for about 14 years till get lasic done about 1.5 years ago. BUT you really really shouldn't keep them in that long. Your eye needs oxygen. I used to get eye infections from over-wear at least 1x a year, but there was a redness to the eye & sometimes a little discharge.

Go to the DR. You really dont want to mess w/ your vision.

since no other symptoms, I doubt your eye is infected. I thought at first u had a scratched cornea, but that should still hurt like hell. I'm also not sure about your vision being bad.

I had pinkeye once, and it feels like your have sand in your eye. It hurts in a bad way, and the green puss just rolls out of it constantly. If you keep it shut, it matts up in about an hour. I'm glad that's not what you have, because it is pure misery.

i have a couple of holes in my right retina...and an epiretinal membrane...vision`s not all that great..

the surgery for this is that they peel the membrane and inject a gas bubble in the eye...then,i`m supposed to keep my head in a downward position for up to 2 weeks!....when he said that i laughed....ain`t happening...

but at some point,if the other eye starts to deteriorate,i`m gonna have to do it...i have to be able to drive...

the moral of the story is,don`t wait too long if it doesn`t get better...i don`t think you could have a detached retina from wearing contacts, but i`m not an ophthalmologist...

if it doesn`t improve,go see somebody,bud...

don`t f- around with your eyesight..

Not sure what type you are wearing, but it sounds to me you might have a light case of keratoconus?

Let us know how it goes at the Docs :SIB

mild cornea swelling probably caused by an irritation of something between the contact an eye or a torn contact. gave me drops to sooth the eye and take the swelling down.

told me to just make sure to change the contacts once a month and i'm good to go.

i have peace of mind now :SIB

:scared :scared

i'm pretty certain i don't have that. i sure hope not kurby

I have a mild case. It was caused by wearing my contacts like you have been doing. Those pictures are cases that show how bad it can get. It basically means you might have a wavy cornea, which when the outer layer disintegrates from lack of oxygen this is the resulting complication. I hope it is not your situation, cause it will affect your golf game:shocked:

he said i can wear the contacts that i use all the time but to change them once a month with new ones and give my eyes one day a month without any just to give them a break

i have 'night and day' contacts and he said it's perfectly okay to wear them all the time.

why don't you just stab it with a hot stick for chrissakes. Blind beggars make better money you know. Six months straight without taking them out is ridiculous and I don't even wear contacts or glasses.......

Do you walk around with toilet paper packed in your shorts too?

You really need to start taking care of yourself or I am going to have to find a new cart partner and it is hard to find someone as bad as I am...........just sayin:shrug:

Hope that helps,

FDC

Well, this has been a fun week. My right eye upon waking up yesterday morning was swollen shut. Imagine my reaction!!! :scared

I'm one who never goes to the doctor, I went immediately yesterday and was told I have an eye infection caused by wearing my contacts ALL the time and Atlanta's SMOG levels. He stated that Tampa's climate of salt water and fresh ocean air allows for wearing contacts longer than in Atlanta's smog infested climate...

As I type this, I'm online looking for eye patches to wear to the pool this weekend... Might as well enjoy it... prescribed 5 days of a steroid topical and today its still 50% swollen...
Katie and I have a double date tonight to see the Hangover at a Dine in Movie theater in ATL... I look like Hitch after the allergic reaction...

Anyways, never had an eye problem till I read this thread... :sadwave:
