It's an unfortunate incident but I would have expected both a Harvard University Professor and a Cambridge Police Sargent who teaches a course on racial profiling to have handled this situation better.

This seems to be the on point comment of this thread to me. Admittedly I don't know the specifics here, but I do know from the initial post that Wayne is fervently hoping this is something he can continually bring up the right reverend about, and make seem as bad as possible.

You are frankly a little predictable these days, Wayne, and the race thing just always goes back to the reverend, and I try to give you more credit than basic racism. Tough to do, sometimes, though.

For the record, I think this is something Obama should have shied away from, and not turned into a profiling issue. That's as much a racist thing as anything, and he doesn't need to weigh in on everything with an opinion, especially something so volatile, and personal.

The bottom line---the guy shouldn't have been arrested. I think the most telling detail is that no police report describes the situation where they had their guns drawn. Any potential burglary would have resulted in police taking all precautions to protect themselves against these potential intruders.

If there was no threat to them----that tells me they had the responsibility to calm the situation. Cuffing and booking him was extreme and unnecessary. How about once they got his ID and found out he owned the place---just apologize and go away. In this case police took his resistance personally.

Obama was right to call this s stupid act.

IMO

Apologize for what--doing his fcking job.

If anyone needs to apologize its Gates & Gumby for--jumping on the ole race baiting game at every opp.

This is a terrible thing. First off none of us know what really happened. Including Obama. But this is opening up old wounds.

What we know is that the officer was responding to a 911 call. We know that Gates had a hard time getting in his house because of a damaged front door. A door damaged in an attempted break in.

We also know that there has been 9 break-ins in that neighborhood.

That racist word gets thrown around awful easily these days.

My feeling is that the cop didn't do anything wrong and even if he did why did Obama get involved?

Divide and conquer maybe?

This is just red meat for the birth certificate crowd Stevie and Obama needs to learn how not to fall in these type of traps. Now it is 24/7 on all neo-con news stations when healthcare was the topic. What the hell did that question have to do with healthcare? Who gives a shit about two people in an alleged breakin that happens every five seconds in this country? Obama should have known better. He is starting to fall for this silly shit like that jackass Kerry. He should know the Republicans are self centered and couldn't give two shits about the country or their fellow man. They enjoy stuff like this so it clouds the real issues. The issues that are so fuked up because of them.

Sponge, think of this. That reporter that asked the question is an old friend of his from Chicago. I think he wanted the question.

I agree the Neocons love this stuff.

you have got to be kidding me, the professor should have been maced, fuckin loudmouth jerkoff RACIST professor the officer was right and Obama/professor are dead wrong. a call was made about a burgularly, the professor acted like an asshole and should have been arrested. this man running our country is the biggest racist on earth, why the fuck is he talking about an incident that happened that is a private matter, the professor thought he was above the law and the cop wasn't going to play into his racist bullshit and arrested him, and rightfully so.

If he were a REAL citizen, he wouldn't have said anything, he should be deported.

 because someone asked....not like he just opened up and volunteered his opinion.

I fixed that part for you

and when does it become unlawful to speak to police while in a rage or angered? I see them cursing and swearing at people all the time!!! So a few curse words were used, BIG DEAL....wonder if the cop ever asked the lady.....do you know your nieghbor that lives there. Maybe she could of said yes, its a professor from harvard, a blackman. But I am almost willing to bet, when the fact was known it was 1 or POSSIBLY 2(holy shit 2 blackmen are as rare as the green monster) blackmen, well everyones ears went up like a watch dog on duty....because no blacks belong around here, I bet was the mindframe, from the CALLER and the OFFICER. Sad the professor didnt just prove his place of residence and move on, but to be honest...someone comes onto my property un invited POLICE or NOT, he she or it better pack a lunch. Both the officer and professor acted in a un professional/civil manner IMO this all could of been prevented with a 10 second pause from either side.

DTB- please offer us a fair and balanced opinion by producing a snapshot of the Cambridge area, as it relates to the Professor being polled by his peers.:)

It sounds like Gates is just a hot head and didn't like being accused of a thief because he was black.
He went over the top and sounds like he wasn't going to stop until he got arrested.

This is the saddest part of the story in the report:

Once in cuffs, Gates told the officers that you could not lock the door due to a previous break in attempt when they offered to lock up for him.

WHAT THE HELL?? You would think a guy who already had a break in attempt would be a little more understanding of the situation. If he is robbed at gunpoint, then he will be begging for this so called racist cop to show up.

He either needs to find better friends or Obama knows more then he is letting on but why set urself up for the Limbaugh clowns to trip all over themselves win venom about racism? You see the two seasoned board clowns start threads about this and then the chimps chirp in.

one more thing, its not like the NUTTY PROFESSOR was beat up, which he should have, or got tazered or shot, all he had to do was prove who he was and the whole thing would have been avoided. Being a loudmouth smart ass gets you nowhere when dealing with cops. As for the jackass President, he is a divider not a uniter, the biggest racist in this equation is Barry Hussein Obama

It isn't a crime to be a loudmouthed, jerkoff racist. Nor is it a crime to be an asshole.

If being a loudmouthed jerkoff racist WAS illegal... well the rest of this comment writes itself.
