Doesn't this remind anyone of the run on houses a few years ago? A government subsidy combined with a very attractive signing offer and you're good to go. That is, until the monthly payments start to get in the way of that pesky rent payment.
I agree with an earlier post in that, if you were already in the market for a new car and if you fit this criteria, this is a fantastic deal and a chance to get back a little bit of your own money. But if you've been driving an '88 Honda out of necessity, then a new car payment is just going to become another hit on your credit report when you default. Maybe the next President will bail out the auto lenders too.

Under a mask.
But if someone can afford a car,and can save between 3 or 4 thousand, and it fits there need, what a deal. Its already proved to work.

America needs to spend.Thats what is killing this country.(Along with unemjoyment, thats why no ones spending.)

tax dollars used to bailout automakers....
tax dollars used to assure bailed out automakers have a market for their products....

program ends, sales dry up....

Hopefully not. Maybe so. I am taking the pollitics out if it for now, and giving it a chance. It's a fucking shame some of you can only bitch about something for the sake of just bitching.

If I had a car that qualified as a clunker, I would damned sure look into this idea! I've paid enough taxes over the years, and why the fuck shouldn't I get a small hunk back?

Real shame a person who actually works might catch a fucking break, instead of money going overseas, or to deadbeats who don't contribute to the tax base.

Smoke and mirrors? Could turn out that way, but it's a crying shame that some of you fuckbags hope that's the case.

I don't know what's worse: The country turning into a shithole, or nutjobs who want it to stay that way so they can say, "I told you so", in some way, shape, or form.

Good!

What's so bad about this program?

I want you to actually write it in here, instead of just yipping.

You own a vehicle that is worth 500 dollars on the open market, you go to a dealership and they give you 4500 for your ride, you just fleeced the American taxpayer out of 4000 dollars all to save the world from global warming, which is a hoax. oh yeah one more thing, you can only buy a car Obama says is okay and they are going to spend another 2 billion we don't have to do it. What a scam...

i kinda figured ur dad just made poster type money and you have been soaking ur wife's families money under the guise of some billionaire CEO. Usually guys like u who scream foul on post boards To support Rush Limbaugh like views, made nothing on ur own but want to keep every last penny you received not from hard work, but was handed to u thru inheritance from somebody else. It is okay tho. I have seen worst.:toast:

huh:shrug: both parents are alive, I wish my wife's family was rich:SIB we both work and save money each month, have been for the last 10.5 years we have been married, so when its time for a big purchase, we pay cash, something wrong with that:shrug:

Hedge,
Can understand your view on the preference of a large vehicle. But an increase in mpg of anything between 4 and 10 still nets you $3500 with this program.
For me this could not come at a better time since my 93 Ranger I paid cash for back in 01 thru a friend, was starting to go. I paid 5K for it and I got a great 8 years out of it. Now Sam is going to give me $4500 for it. For me it's a no-brainer.
I agree with many that this is something that if you qualify, it's something to seriously look into.
The only thing that I do not agree with is the disposal of the older cars. Some are still in decent shape, and can definitly be used to help some other folks out.

So Cal
Good or bad; another gift to auto industry or not; it's just another government program that didn't work as intended = done in 4 days. And these are the same people you want running your health care?

by all means get your rebate....i`d rather some hard working stiff get my tax dollars than some f-cking illegal using my social security number...

personally,i think it`s a ponzi scheme..trying to buy favor and keep their patron`s(uaw)palm`s greased......this is their plan along with the class warfare meme...these mofos didn`t think this through(like every other "seat of your pants" moonbat idea this administration is rushing through without debating) and some auto dealers(the ones the gov`t didn`t close down) could take it up the ying yang because in some cases the rules were changed after the fact or the bureaucracy is just so convoluted...not to mention the fact that they`re throwing away perfectly good vehicles that could help people with no benefit other than "going green"....

puh-lease...

all that aside, getting a few grand for trading in your f-150 for a prius is one thing...

getting stuck with some 3rd world, single payer healthcare plan that congress and "the one" are exempting themselves from is a whole `nother can of worms that will curse everyone on this board(or their extended family) in some way, shape or form before it`s all said and done...

I am happy for you and all that take advantage of the government, I would have done the same if my vehicle was worth less than 4500

I am not a charity;)

on a serious note, I looked into it, I could use my dad's old truck for trade in if he would let me buy it cheap from him, but I can't find a vehicle that would fit my lifestyle

also, you have to own title for one year to qualify.

you talk in circles.
