New York nightclub hostess Rachel Uchitel was the first of three women linked to Woods, who on Thursday issued an apology for personal 'transgressions' which appeared to confirm reports of an extra-marital affair.
Uchitel had been due to attend a news conference with celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred in Beverly Hills at 11.30am on Thursday (AEDT Friday), but the event was cancelled because of 'unforeseen circumstances,' a statement said.
Multiple sources told RadarOnline.com that Woods's people 'are desperate to keep Rachel from talking about Tiger and that they were willing to go a long, long way to keep her silent.' One source claimed Uchitel 'was negotiating a $US1 million (S$1.38 million) payoff by Tiger's people to remain silent.' When asked about this, Uchitel's lawyer Gloria Allred said, 'no comment'.
TMZ are reporting Woods and Uchitel had been in touch last night for about half an hour. 'There are reports of some sort of deal between Rachel and Tiger - ie. money for silence - we have no knowledge one way or the other. As of last night we do know no financial overture had been made,' TMZ reports.
Uchitel's links to Woods emerged in the aftermath of the golfer's mysterious late night car crash outside his home in Florida last Friday. Uchitel, 33, had initially dismissed reports of an affair, telling the New York Post: 'It's the most ridiculous story. It's like they are asking me to comment if there are aliens on earth.' -- AFP

Another purported mistress, Jaimee Grubbs, was first described as being a Las Vegas cocktail waitress, but Radar Online is reporting she works in a medical marijuana store. There are no allegations she shared any of her product.
Sports marketing experts say both story lines still aren?t scandalous enough to torpedo Tiger?s career. His squeaky-clean image is tarnished, but redemption could still be teed up down the line.
?In the short term, he takes a huge hit,? said Jim Delaney of Boston-based Activate Sports & Entertainment.
?The general public may be disappointed ... but the public also loves a comeback story,? Delaney told the Herald.
Marc Ganis, a Chicago sports consultant, said any alleged Ambien use won?t drive Woods out of the business.
?There?s no deviant behavior. This story hasn?t crossed that line yet,? said Ganis.

Following the confessions of Jaimee Grubbs and the denials (so far) of Rachel Uchitel, the newest woman branded "Tiger Woods' mistress" is Kalika Moquin. A manager at Las Vegas club The Bank, Moquin is reported to have met Woods in 2006.
