Jack,
Odds and Ends . . .
(1) I?ve seen
Krolls? mentioned at least twice, and it would be a strange trip to Green Bay for me if it didn?t include one and sometimes two meals at Kroll?s for the butter burgers and chicken dumpling soup. It?s right across the street from the stadium. You get some history, too, by checking out the extensive ?wall of signatures?, or even just the conference room with framed pictures of all the Packers? coaches. And adding to the history of Kroll's is this picture on the cover of Sports Illustrated that was featured the week before winning Super Bowl XXXI in New Orleans:
(2) I see you must have figured out that
Curly?s Pub is inside the stadium. It?s a great place to stop in for a drink, but you really need to take it to Kroll?s when it comes time to eat any food. While you are in Curly?s, take a moment to look out the window and down into the secure area where players/coaches/etc. park. Better yet, get a seat at the window, especially if there is activity going on in the surrounding parking lot. It?s just another ?moment? that makes the Lambeau Field experience unique.
(3) The only absolute must to do is the
Hall of Fame Tour, and game day Monday sounds like the best plan. Take the stairs down rather than the elevator, because the stairs are the starting point. I?m sure you?ll enjoy the Lombardi wing and momentos, and the "locker room" area with locker stall exhibits for each NFL Hall of Famer (and some training room equipment that looks like it belongs in a lobotomy scene from One Flew Over the Cuckoo?s Nest).
(4) The
stadium tour is also an hour well spent, but nothing as unique as the HOF. If you skip the stadium tour, still take the time to check out the atrium.
(5) The
Packers Pro Shop leads the league in sales of merchandise at any stadium site, and that?s very much attributable to such a
huge selection of Lambeau Field items as opposed to Packers team merchandise.
(6) It?s nothing ?super special?, but the best view of Green Bay in all directions comes from heading west across the
bridge on Interstate 43 over the mouth of the Fox River. Just do it if you are in the vicinity and have just a few minutes to spare; I have yet to take any of my Green Bay guests on a brief detour across the bridge who didn?t thank me for doing so.
(7) If it's not far from your seat, it?s worth a moment to get a view from the only open section of the stadium, along the south end zone concourse, and see the thousands of fans streaming to the stadium up Packers Drive and through the parking lot full of tailgaters.
(I truly cherish all these moments every time I'm lucky enough to get to a game.) Continuing on . . .
(8) Stadium View would be my definite choice for watching games on Sunday . . .
(9) A couple of strolls along Packers Drive (the one long block between Stadium View and the stadium) to check out the vendor tents, fan costumes, ticket scalpers, etc. . . .
(
Later tonight I?ll expand on these last two items items, and maybe add one or two more items, but not until after supper and the end of the Texas game.)
I hope late is better than never.
Packers Rule!
