Well, here's the scoop. All day yesterday I felt like I had to use the bathroom. You know the feeling you get when you hold it in all day because you are in the car or for whatever reason? Well, everytime I went to the bathroom, nothing...

Anyways, about 10pm last night the right side of underneath my stomach started throbbing and it just got worse and worse until about 1:30am I figured, I should probably goto the ER because I was just afraid it might be my apendix.

So I go in, they hook me up to an IV and then run a cat scan on me and I have a kidney stone. I've never had a more throbbing constant pain in my life and it just sucks. I'm on some powerful meds right now. I got home about 5am and I've probably slept atleast 90% of the day away. I went and bought 2 1/2 gallons of Apple Juice, and trying hard to drink as much as I can...

My question is has anyone else out here had this and what are some tips or advice? I'm not really looking forward to the coming days...

Unfortunately I am all too familiar with kidney stones.

Usually the pain is in the back and on the side.

The thing that must happen is to pass it.
They almost always send you home to try to pass it. You need to get a urologist doctor and go see a doctor.

If it is too big and you cant pass it on your own then its not good.

I had to have lithotripsy to break up one that would not pass. Its expensive and there are only a few machines in each state. Once they break it up , there are alot of small ones that come down the pike.

I have been in a few ambulances for kidney stones. Once they determine your not dieing, they pretty much take their time about giving you anything for pain. Its really crazy.

I had to have one surgically removed . It was the worst pain I have ever been through.

They had to put a stent in to hold the channel open. When they took the stent out the doctor came in with Edward Scissorhands and they stuck that contraption up my dick. And they didnt give me any pain chit, just a local anasethetic.

I pissed blood for a week after that.

And then of course the small ones that pass usually within a few days. Do they have you pissing in a strainer to try to find it ?

Thats alot of fun.

Usually when you cant pee at all , it means it is blocking and may be a huge one.

When its over stop eating cheese , cokes, and drink alot of water every day.

hope you get over it quickly .

PS - my dad gave me a tip one time to help it pass. Get on a hard surface and go up on your toes. Then bang down on your heels. He said it always works for him to help pass them.

Had 3 of them. Just pretend you're a baby, check in to the hospital and cry for morphine. Not much else you can do until they pass.

This was exactly my experience. I've had 3 kidney stone experiences. First time was exactly like Bucs experience. I think this was the last time I cried man the pain was so bad, like throbbing then moments of no pain then intense pain not to mention a 5 hour emergency room wait.

Second time I knew what it was drove myself to the hospital stopping to throw up 3 times on the way there. All these came at 1:30 am or later while I was sleeping. Like the first time they had to do the liptotriposy which cost something like 18k per usage and a 3 day hospital visit with a lot of great drugs. An asian lady doctor telling me I just had worst pain man can have. And then the first lipto didn't break it up so I had to do it again. Love me some 50k+ medical bills.

Third time was easiest but the worst because I was on the road with my team at the University of Iowa for a golf tournament, didn't go to a doctor for 4 days until we got home. I must have taken 300 hot baths it was the only way to ease the pain.

Also stint in junk is the worst thing ever, well getting it taken out

My advice is do whatever they say you have to do, get some rest, keep your fluids up and get it analyzed so you know what you can do to prevent it in the future.

Side note: I'm 3 for 3 of having mine stuck in kidney, so each had to be blasted so I never actually saw the bastard that caused me so much pain

I forgot about the throwing up part.

When the big one happened I literally heard a loud crack as it broke away from the rest of the calcium deposit at the top of my kidney.

the stent removal though :scared

and then the uncontrollable pissing every 20 minutes.

holy christmas :scared

The stint removal oh it was so bad. Hi pressured water tube blasting up there while he's pulling the stint out. No sedation or anything. Meh. Ok I can't talk about it anymore lol.

I would not wish it on anyone.

The only true benefit is my pain threshold is so high now that nothing really hurts compared to that.

Where it is real F ing COLD
I have had many patients with kidney stones.. Maybe a dozen.. None have ever had to have surgery.. The stones all passed on their own.. Had the symptoms you had, that doesn't mean that you wont need the surgery but it is rare. Drink plenty of water and piss in that strainer.. When all of this is over.. Please, Please follow all the instructions that they will give you.. I hate to tell you this but people who have stones will usually get them back again at some point in their lives and if I remember, you are a young guy so ask them all kinds of questions about the best way to prevent them..

Good advice bleedingpurple

I had them 3 times 18,21, and 23 years old. I'm 28 now.

What is weird that I've had to surgery each time because they've always gotten lodged in the kidney area and not further down. So from your experience that is pretty rare?

Yes it has been, I do realize people have to get surgery but in my experiences none have.. I wonder what the percentages are.. I will look it up as I am playing poker on my laptop and need to kill down time. I would guess maybe 5 to 10%
