In early 2007 my wife was in a auto accident. The young 19 yr old was on a cell phone and ran a redlight. She caused two t-bone type crashs and sent 3 people to the hospital. My wife was injured the most severely but the other car also had people hurt really bad. She has had knee surgery, shoulder surgery, 5 epidurals, 2 yrs phy therapy, accupuncture for back pain, and on and on.

Her lower back was the most troublesome and has required her to be on morphine for way too long to control the pain.

My wife finally underwent two level spinal fusion in late September.

I am happy to report that she is doing so much better now. She is not pain free but is getting stronger everyday. One of the biggest hurtals is the incision pain as they went through the stomach for the surgery.

I must admit this whole situation over the last 3 years has affected us emotionally , physically , and mentally. Our normal lives have been completely disrupted. She lost her job because she could not return to work and they fired her.

If you ever have anyone go through this make sure they have a neurosurgeon do the surgery.
We had two orthopedics consulted but there was definately a big differance easily recognized in how they talked to us and what needed to be done.

Discogram - 7 K

2 MRI - 3 K

For 4 days in the hospital the cost was 110 K

For the surgeon and vascular surgeon it was 25 K

The anesthesologist stuff was another 3 k

This is all being paid for out of the the future settlement. Hard to imagine having to come up with that if you didnt have insurance.
Even with insurance thats a tough nut to swallow.

We are all one step away from financial catastrophy in this crazy world.

I thank God everyday that she is on the road to recovery. It is 4-6 weeks to recover from the initial surgery and then 3-6 months to find out if the fusion heals properly.

We had alot of family and friends praying hard and I honestly think that it helped us get through this.

Glad your Wife is on the road to recovery. I went though a situation with my Wifes back and it scared the hell out of me. Was thinking our way of life may have changed forever. She finally got better without surgery. Without your health things change dramatically.
Good luck!

Sounds like you had a good attorney, we are not all ambulance chasers, but if you listened to most insurance companies we keep businesses from coming to our states and swindle people left and right, just like our new shitty ass governor to be said. Glad to hear your wife is doing well.

Thanks guys

We have the top trial attorney in Georgia and you are right when you say he is good.

Somehow he managed to get all this financed.
It took longer than we thought but the end result of my wife being without pain anymore is what matters most.

4 days in the hospital that cost 27,500 a day.

My husband had a simple I&D on an abcess with an overnight stay. The bills totalled about $10,000 for about 24 hours with minimal care (other than the 5 minute surgery).

Just handled a claim for the accidental death of a 2 yo child. Talk about messed up. I had to interview the parents and such about the circumstances and it sucked for everyone involved. The medical bills for the treatment and care he received between the incident, on a saturday, and the time they took him off of life support on Tuesday is into the low 6 figures. I was floored when I received the stack of medical bills. It adds up quickly!

On the course!
I think most of us really do take simple, daily shit for granted. Hope it all works out, physically, and financially.

Scott, I'm glad to hear your wife is doing better.

One thing you may want to check out is getting her on some growth hormone or MGF. It will speed her recovery up beyond belief. I know people think of it as a PED but it will heal her quicker than anything else there is.

Just had sinus surgery last week - In hospital from 12:30pm to 6:00pm = $10,500

Scott - FUUUUUUUUUUUUUK.........I had no idea, if I did, I forgot.

When you wrote "We are all one step away from financial catastrophy in this crazy world." my first thought is - true....but we are also one step away from losing much more........thankfully she survived the accident.

Whatever happened to the girl that ran the redlight? She come out without a scratch????

The girl who ran the red light was turning left in front of on going traffic. She came out without a scratch. Her new jeep her Dad bought her was totaled.

She never went over to my wife or the other ppl that were laying on the street and asked if they were ok.

The girl was on a cell phone talking to her Dad and my wife overheard her say ... oh my jeep .... my new jeep.

Her Dad was there when I got there and it was close to the house. It was all I could do to keep myself from going over there and having a few words with them.

She pleaded guilty and paid the ticket.

She is probably sitting in the Bahamas right now drinking margarittas with the little umbrellas.

Somehow when she goes on the stand , I think the attitude will show through to the jury.

During the deposition the insurance co asked my wife 3 times, did the young woman ever come over and ask if you were ok. It probably came up during the other ppl that were hurt court actions.

Scott, I wish the best to your wife's recovery.

Acute left subdural hematoma with I was 17. It was close to a 3/4 million when it was all said in done.

Just glad to be here after spending time in a coma.

Life and footballs, both could bounce either way... I count my blessings.

It really makes us count the blessings.

A pain doctor gave her a pain med that she was allergic to at one point and she swelled up with 22 lbs of water weight. We went to her gen doctor and she sent us to the emergency room. They thought she was having heart attack, or cancer symptoms. Scared the holy chit out of us. They kept her for two days before they figured it out.

Then she had a appendix attack. And because she was taking morphine the pain was dulled . We were staying with friends out of state and thought it was back pain. We finally got her to the hospital and they did the scans.

She literally almost died as it slightly burst and was infecting her system. It was a total nightmare.
