Well ummm...........look what I started:scared

What you "started" is not surprising considering the somewhat intemperate remarks you opened this thread with. Your enthusiastic embrace of Rationalism clearly is not tempered by reason; I hope age assisted by melancholic experience and reflection will eventually undeceive you of such certainties and sweeping judgments.

To me, it is all about living, and letting live. While I am not one to believe in deities, there are reasons that religion appears useful. At the top of the list, imo, is the manner in which it consoles grieving families.

I agree. Religion is a great way for people to cope with the end of life.

Are any of you hard-edged guys going to piss in the face of his family by telling them there is no god, or would you rather see them take solace in the "fact" that their beloved husband, father and grandfather is in a better place?

Do you really think that any of us would do such a thing? How about anything remotely disrespectful?

Why not just let people who are not affecting you adversely live their lives as they see fit?

Religion affects our laws and culture, whether religious or not. I have every right to have a position and I'm not embarrassed to talk about it, even though it is unpopular.

Well if someone is trying to convince you then yeah I would say pull out all the stops to make your case. Inserting your opinion and tearing others down every chance you get just to prove your "intellectual dominance" is totally different and is the point I was making. I find it odd that you feel the need to be belief police, but hey man if thats your thing then go for it:0074 BTW dont waste your religion jabs on me as your beliefs would never have any bearing on mine.

It is an internet forum. The whole concept relies on people stating their opinions. Stating my opinions is not about "intellectual dominance". I like the debate and I'm very confident in my opinion.

For what is worth, I think BBC is one of the few believers that I really respect on this matter. Bobby will have fun with it because he is comfortable with his position and what he believes. I don't care that he believes in God and I don't think he is any dumber for doing so (Booby, please note the wording :SIB). I am critical of the believers, in general, but I don't think of it on a personal level.

Assuming you have quoted correctly (Why don't you use the KJV?), you give a fine example of the violence promoted by Xtians.

Matthew 10:32-39 (King James Version)

32Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

33But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

34Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

37He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Duff ,6 half dozen.I gotta laugh thou because just as I expected you and Trench have taken his words out of content.Read it again slower and really think what he means by his words. He is very tricky when he speaks. It is not easy you almost gotta break it down word for word, sentence to sentence.Let's put it this way ,there is a warning of violence and unrest between man .

Just because he says by him doesn't mean he is looking for it.Just like it says in the bible not one man is good, not one.I could go deeper into this passage but with you baby steps is a start.

Just messin' witcha - haven't had my coffee yet.

I know your opinion on this is well thought out, I just think you're wrong. We'll all find out for sure soon enough, though.

Merry Christmas

Rusty, it's possible to be spiritual without believing ANY of the religious dogma in the Bible. If you choose to live your life by the words of a small group of men that lived long ago, good luck with that.

Merry Christmas, Rusty... :toast:

I just have a problem when someone blames the tension and violence on any religion never mind Christianity.Did anyone ever consider its man,not the religion that's the problem.

I would never hate any other religion because my religion teaches me not to hate.Understand?
Paul's letters to the churches are written because of man's misdeed's within in church,he try's to set them straight.

Almost an impossible task.

Merry Christmas to you as well Trench:toast:
