Can anyone give me a good reason not to short Starbucks? :sadwave: $5.00 coffee in a bad economy. People either buying cheaper coffee, making it at home or drinking free coffee at work, or quitting. More layoffs coming and possibly more store closing. Is there anything to get excited about with this company?

I would never recommend buying SBUX due to the reasons that you stated, but now is not the time to short this stock.

The reasons you stated are more than likely why it has fallen from $35 to today's price. Everyone already knows that story, and it is more than likely priced in.

If this stock gets down to the $5 level, then it you could start debating it because it will have to be dropped from the few mutual funds that are holding on due to their rules.

Personally, there is no compelling reason to play this stock in either direction today.

ACTC.PK +35% today.

:00hour

I have a sell order in at 0.25 in my personal account. Did not put a sell order in for the investment club. Just letting that one ride until BDB's suggested 2.00. :)

Now I remember why I don't play these pink slips. I am usually a very unemotional investor, but this thing has me all jacked up.

Damnit.

Sold about 45% of my shares at 0.25 to be close to fully on house's money.

If it has big sell off today, I could get back in. not sure on that one, though.

Thanks, BDB.

Vinnie - After many days of thinking about this, I have changed my first sell order to 3.00.

No other changes at this time.

ACTC = 0.28 - :SIB

actc closed at .29

only a 81.25% percent upswing.....lol

at some point there is going to be a sell off of some, but the market volume of 50 million for a pinky over a quarter is probably unheard of.

the stem cell sector is such a life changing event if the medicine works which all indicators says does. this is the next tech boom, but it is actually saving lives instead of making people rich.

it could crash and burn tomorrow so beware, but i've got a feeling that this could be it.

ACTC'S TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM 18-Jan-09 10:15 am Here is information on the technology ACTC has license and use. People pay attention, ok. ACTC have some of the most valuable stem cell technology:

1) We license technology to Start a JV with Geron. They in turn use
our technology as well as license to GTC Biotheraputics.

This was in the news today:
FDA Mulls OK for Blood Thinner From Genetically Engineered Goats

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is moving closer to approvalfor
an anti-clotting drug made from the milk of genetically
engineeredgoats, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

2) We license technology to Embryome Science a divison of Btim. Read
this article on page 6 it basically says the IPS technology they use
from Actc may be the best of all IPS technology in that it doesn't
carry viral vector or added genes. Making it the preferred IPS
technology.

http://www.stemcellresearchnews.com/PDF_...

3) Did you know that the original patents covering animal cloning
known as the Roslin patents(ie Dolly the sheep) are owned by Actc.
Geron has the patent rights to animal cloning but Actc has the human
patent rights.

4) Parthenogenesis. This technology owned by Actc is licensed to Isco.

International Stem Cell Corporation (ISCO.OB)is a California company
that has developed breakthrough human stem celllines that promise to
eliminate the rejection of transplanted cells bythe patient?s immune
system. ISCO?s technology, Parthenogenesis, results in the creation of
pluripotent human stem cell lines fromunfertilized human eggs without
the transfer of foreign DNA. This methodology offers the potential to
create the first true ?Stem CellBank? and also addresses critical
ethical issues by eliminating theneed to use fertilized embryos. ISCO
also produces and sellsspecialized cells and growth media worldwide
for therapeutic research.

4) Hemangioblasts. The technology to create endless supply of blood.
This is what we have a new JV on

http://www.advancedcell.com/press-releas...

5) RPE Advanced Cell Technology is currently focused on using its
proprietary technologies to generate stable cell lines including
retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells for the treatment of diseases
of the eye, including macular degeneration, which represents a $28
billion dollar market. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects
more than 30 million people worldwide and is the leading cause of
blindness in people over 60 years of age in the United States.

6) HG ACT?s HG program is in preclinical development investigating the
possibility of using the cells to treat cardiovascular disease,
stroke, and cancer.

7)Myoblast The myoblast stem cell therapy involves transplantation of
expanded autologous myoblasts (adult progenitor stem cells) derived
from a small biopsy of skeletal muscle from a patient?s leg.

Overall strength of Actc's technology

http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Advanced+C...

We have most of the stem cell market covered. We have the ability to
produce 140 cell types and we have many different product lines. We
have 400 patents/applications.

This was below $3.00 because of the lack of funding and stem cell ban.
Now that these 2 issues are behind us its clear sailing.

Read up on the technology. We were there before anyone else and thanks
to West and Lanza received the patents. We will be the most valuable
player in the sector.

Why do you think they never sold or allowed a buyout. Why did they
almost go bankrupt but hung on.

Read up on Lanza and the company we own the science!!!!
d through out the market place. I know alot people do not know this information. If people sell off, they will regret it.

ACTC.OB is trading up over 70% after announcing earlier today the development of five human embryonic stem cell (hESC) lines without the destruction of embryos. The co said these new results have the potential to "end the ethical debate surrounding the use of embryos to derive stem cells." The co noted that the NIH report to the President refers to this technology as one of the viable alternatives to the destruction of embryos... WSJ also has an article out on the news, it said scientists have created fresh human stem-cell lines without destroying embryos from which they were derived, the latest in a series of experiments aimed at overcoming ethical concerns that have long hobbled such research. Using the new technique, scientists extracted a single cell from an eight-cell human embryo, then coaxed that cell to become a master stem cell line. That line was then manipulated in the lab and became various other tissue-types found in the body, such as heart and nerve cells. The hope of stem-cell science is that such freshly derived tissue could one day be transplanted into patients to treat diseases. But researchers are desperate for access to new stem-cell lines. Since mid-2001, the Bush administration has decreed that federal funds may be used for research using only 60 or so stem-cell lines already obtained from human embryos. However, these lines are old, and some are starting to develop genetic abnormalities. The latest approach may help to boost the number of available stem-cell lines. "Ours is a working technology, and we could supply these [fresh] stem-cell lines to federal researchers immediately," said Robert Lanza, senior author of the study, which appears in the journal Cell Stem Cell. Dr. Lanza is chief scientific officer at Advanced Cell Technology of Los Angeles, and a professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. The new technique is partly based on a fertility-clinic test known as pre-implantation genetic diagnosis...

not sure what i can do or what i should do with this stock. i won't be able to watch it thursday, friday and monday. i have 40,000 average at .22  (nice little profit)

stop loss won't work if it drops too fast. it will blow right past my stop.

i guess i'll keep my eye on it for the next 2 days and make a decision before close on wednesday.

i'd hate to leave and come back to a 10 cent stock and i'd hate to sell and come back to a 75 cent stock.

you day trade more than i do, so take your initial investment and let the rest ride.

it's my get rich stock. i'm in at 6 cents and out with my entire initial investment. i'm not in it for the quick buck or turnaround. taking a flyer that this is the one in a million diamond in the rough that makes me rich. a bunch of tech stocks did that for people a decade ago. if it's not its a freeroll and can't lose squat. the stem cell sector is for real and whether or not this stock is the real deal is up for debate, but i'm chancing it and time will tell. i don't want a little, i'm greedy and want the whole thing. I want FU money from this......kid's tuition, vacation home, etc. sure its probably a pipe dream, but it don't cost me nothing.

I ,issed this thread, we must have started one at the same time this am...

Kicking myself because my bid was .005 off and I held to it. I come home and it is at .29, would have been nice on 17.5k shares!

Oh well, will take a look again, cuz at .29, still very inexpensive if it performs!!
