Kinda nice, almost nobody sitting this one out. Iowa is expecting TJ Hall back. He's their best CB and missed their last 2 games. Vanderbilt is missing the 2nd-biggest piece of their offense. TE Stowers is out. He is Pavia's security blanket.

I'll go through the #s quickly, but it feels like a waste of time. All 4 bowl games today will probably just come down to which team gives a fuck.

Iowa - we all know what the Hawkeyes do. 1st down run, 2nd down run, 3rd down pass. Old school. Only 5 teams had fewer passing yards/game than Iowa, and two of them are service academies. RB Kamari Moulton had a solid, if unspectacular year, averaging 5.0 yards/rush. Backup Jaziun Patterson averaged 5.2. QB Gronowski is their 2nd-leading rusher, and he averages 5.5 yards/carry. Gronowski put up the passing #s you'd expect from an Iowa QB... he completed 63% with 8 TDs and 6 INTs and averaged 6.4 yards/att. Iowa did not have a receiver with more than 22 catches this year. Their leading receiver is, of course, a TE. DJ Vonnahme averaged 13.1 yards/catch. Solid # for a TE, but well short of the 17 yards/catch that Smitty averaged in his college career. Just saying. Smitty > Vonnahme. Alright, before this train goes completely off the rails... Vandy's defense. Very solid against the run, allowing 3.6 yards/rush (28th in the country). They are, however, vulnerable to the pass, giving up 7 yards/att (66th). Luckily for them, they are playing Iowa.

We're also pretty familiar with Vanderbilt's offense. It's Pavia. What a season. He's a better-throwing version of Haynes King. He completed 71% (!), averaged 9.4 yards/att (!), while throwing 27 TDs and 8 INTs. You may have heard that he can run, too. He is their leading rusher by 266 yards. He averaged 6.9 yards/rush. He probably was robbed of the Heisman. It's supposed to go to the best player, not just the QB on the best team. Rumor has it that Pavia is seeking a 17th year of eligibility. He's going to keep playing until they give him that trophy, dammit. RB Sedrick Alexander is no slouch, averaging 5.5 yards/carry. Hey, guess what? Iowa's defense is solid. They allow 3.5 yards/rush (25th in the country) and 5.7 yards/att (8th). An oddity that I noticed... only 6 Hawkeyes recorded a sack this year. And 17 of their 21 sacks came from 3 players (Llewellyn, Hurkett, and Graves).

Iowa has played an SEC team in a bowl game the last 4 years. The first 2 were against UK, so that barely counts. Iowa lost the last 2, giving up 35 and 27 points.

Of course it really comes down to... is Vandy focused on this game? They were in the conversation for the playoffs. And now they're in Tampa, playing the boring ol' Iowa Hawkeyes. Here's the theory I'm going with and, boy, could I be very wrong. I think Pavia is the kind of guy who's going to feed off the hate he received after his stupid comment. I think it's going to be Diego Pavia against the world, and he's going to put this team on his shoulders one last time.

One more thing I noticed. In Iowa's last 3 bowl games, they've scored a TOTAL of 3 points in the second half.

Alright, full disclosure... I'm probably roughly 0-80 on Iowa bowl games.

Vanderbilt (-5.5) 4 units
1H Under (22.5) 2 to win 2.1
Iowa 2H TT Under (9.5) 4 to win 4.2 (probably stupid. it would be smarter to see how the game is playing out. but like i said before... it's only money.)

One more crazy thing I just noticed on DK... and this has me asking what the fuck am I missing... you can get a better price on the 1H under 22.5 than under 21.5. Now, sure, it's very unlikely the half will end on 22 points. But this is still bizarre, right?

The last time Iowa beat a ranked team, the dinosaurs ruled. Ok, it wasn’t quite that long ago, but Iowa gets their 8 wins every season by beating two patsies and the dregs of the big ten.
If vandy is interested in playing today, a big IF, I see them winning and covering.
No side play for me, but I’m on the 1st half under as it’s been a very lucrative wager so far in bowl season.

Gotta try to cut these down just a bit so I can get the 3 afternoon games posted.

Sun Bowl
AZ St is missing a bunch of guys. Obviously Leavitt is out. They're also missing both starting tackles, their leading WR (Tyson, had 27 catches and 333 yards more than anyone else), their leading tackler (Elliott, also led team with 7 sacks), and a few starters in the secondary. Oh, and their top RB, Raleek Brown, who only racked up 1,141 yards (6.1/carry). And some other guys here and there.

Duke will be without RT Brian Parker, who is really good. And the Blue Devils don't have a ton of quality depth on the OL. They're also without top CB Chandler Rivers, who led the team with 8 PDs (nobody else had more than 3).

Jeff Sims took over at QB for AZ St after Leavitt's injury. And he put up Jeff Sims numbers. Going back to his days at Georgia Tech, he's never been a good thrower of the football. This year, he completed 52%, averaging 5.9 yards/att, with 7 TDs and 5 INTs. His main value (other than as a person, of course) is with his legs. He averages 6 yards/carry. Despite only starting 5 games, he's the 2nd-leading rusher on the team. The Sun Devils are thin at RB. RB2, Udoh, apparently has not been seen practicing, so the expectation is that he's not playing. RB3, Kyson Brown, had a good game in the opener against Northern Arizona, but since then only has 11 carries for 33 yards. You can do the math on that one. He did add 6 catches for 72 yards in the opener. Big game for him. After him, nobody has more than 9 carries. Duke is in the middle of the pack defensively against the run, allowing 4.1 yards/carry. They are terrible against the pass, giving up 8.2 yards/att (122nd). Hard to imagine Simms being able to take advantage though. Oh, Dillingham said freshman Cam Dyer will get some snaps. He hasn't seen the field this year. Hard to imagine he's a worse thrower than Sims, so maybe he'll do some damage against that weak secondary.

Duke gets more than 2/3 of their yards from the arm of Sophomore (seriously, he's only a Sophomore?) Darian Mensah. He put up more impressive numbers, completing 68% (8.1 yards/att) with 30 TDs to go with just 5 INTs. True Freshman RB Sheppard had a solid year, averaging 5.4 yards/carry. AZ St was excellent against the run, allowing 3.4 yards/carry (20th in the country). They're solid against the pass, too, giving up 6.6 yards/att (47th). Of course, that's when they're at full strength.

Both kickers are very solid under 40 yards. 40+ is an adventure. Surprisingly, it doesn't look like wind will be a factor today.

Duke HC Manny Diaz is 0-3 in bowl games.

Hard to say if either team is super thrilled to be here. Duke won the ACC Championship game. They're probably satisfied with that. AZ St, of course, had their great run last year, so this is quite a drop-off.

Don't love this one, but fuck it... gonna take a stab with the Sun Devils.

Az St (ML) 2 to win 2.9
1H Under (23.5) 2 to win 2.1 (thought about buying this up to 24.5. probably the smart thing to do. but i like + money.)

Alright, really gotta keep this quick.

Shockingly, after everything went down with the coach, Michigan has a pretty full roster today. Looks like the only big absences are their top 2 sack guys (Moore with 10 and Barham with 4) and maybe LG El-Hadi. I was hoping Underwood would sit this one out, but no such luck.

Texas - one source lists 7 of their top 11 defenders (in terms of snap count) missing this game. But I can't confirm that 2 of them (LBs Moore & Burke) are really out. Anyways, they're missing quite a few guys. Their top tackler and top sack guy are still playing.

Michigan will be coached by... none other than Biff Poggi!!
1767208662609.png

Poggi has never lost a bowl game in his life. His brother gave him the nickname Biff after their mom vetoed "Spike." For 20 years, Biff was a volunteer HC at the Gilman School, a High School in Maryland. I love this shit.

Alright, I'm going with the line drop (it was 7 last night, wasn't it? After missing out on the playoffs, I doubt Texas is excited to be here.

Michigan (ML) 2 to win 3.3
1H Under (24.5) 2.4 to win 2
Parlay Michigan +7.5/Over 44.5 2 to win 2.8

2 teams that don't give a fuck about this game... hanging out in Las Vegas, with all that NIL money... yeah, how do you bet this one? Sorry, I'm not wasting time trying to figure this one out.

Doesn't mean I'm not betting it though. Let's go with...

1H Under (26.5) 2 units (looks like this trend may be coming to a hard stop with this ASU/Duke game)
Parlay Utah -6.5/Over 48.5 2 to win 2.2

Ok, gonna take a lunch break and I'll start on the late game in a bit.

When I saw the first round matchups, I knew immediately I was going to be on the 'Canes. With the thought that I would then fade them in the 2nd round. I didn't see the brackets though. Obviously there's no value betting against them in this matchup. That said, I'm in no hurry to bet on them either.

Let me just say, Ohio St has yet to impress me. The season-opening win over Texas certainly isn't as impressive as first thought. And who else did they beat? The Big 10 was trash this year. And they lost the only game they were challenged (Big 10 Championship Game). Sayin, in his first year as the starter, obviously put up big numbers. And he was decent against Indiana overall, but he threw the INT on their opening drive to set up Indiana with their first points. And he took 5 sacks. They're going to need him to be better tonight.

Freshman RB Bo Jackson (love it) had an excellent year, averaging 6.2 yards/carry. Today, we're going to find out if he can do it against a very good run defense. Miami is 9th in the country, allowing 2.9 yards/rush. And while the first thought may be "sure, but that was against the ACC," they also shut down Love of ND and they went into College Station and shut down A&M's rushing attack. They also sacked Reed (a mobile qb) 7 times. I think it's fair to say their defense is legit.

On the other side of the ball, Ohio St's defense is, duh, also pretty good. They lead the country, allowing just 3.9 yards/play. I'll go out on a limb and say it's highly unlikely Miami RB Fletcher is going to rack up another 172 yards on the ground tonight. The big X factor is freshman Toney. He was able to put the fumble behind him and score the winning (and only) TD at A&M. They will need a big play or two from him, either on offense or returning punts. Carson Beck is much maligned around these parts, and he's certainly not flashy, but he's solid and he won't get rattled tonight.

I like Miami to keep this one close for a while. Obviously, overall, they just don't have the talent on the roster that Ohio St does, and the Buckeyes may pull away. But Ohio St hasn't played in 25 days. And their offense wasn't exactly rolling in their last game. Their only TD was set up when they got an INT at the Indiana 25-yard line.

Miami 1Q (+2.5) 2 to win 2.1
Ohio St 1Q TT Under (5.5) 2 units
1Q Over (7.5) 4 to win 4

Fuck, I can't help myself... my initial thought a few weeks ago was to bet against Miami tonight, and I'm gonna do it.

Ohio St (-7.5) 2.3 to win 2

Nice call on Utah. I had a small action play on NEB. I have no idea why I keep backing that coach of theirs. Good luck on tonight game. I have OSU as well but the line move has me thinking. They have been spot on all bowl season. We’ll see.

Good luck, think your spot. Keep on mind their last loss was a ball buster for them, 25 days to stew on it for a team with many NFL players. I like your angles here , gl!
