Thanks very much, spits, for the great info. Local report on Gleason, don't get any better than that:D .

The more I look at this trade, the more I think Det got shafted. Not too excited about Krusnetsov, but Avery should be a perfect fit with LaPerriere in the 3rd line. And the 2 draft picks are HUGE! Can't believe Det gave up so much for just Schneider.

More info on Gleason....Horns hit it on the head

Has added strength and is more willing to take the body. Is willing to jump up and lay a hit on an opponent and has added grit to his game, even willing to fight. Offensive instincts aren?t great and sometimes makes bad pinches. Does better in defensive zone than in past and wins more battles in the corners. A decent point shot, could use a little more accuracy and another look to ensure shooting lane is clear before blasting away. Has good overall speed, but lost a little bit of that first-step quickness he had before for adding mass . . . good tradeoff. Didn?t show too much on offence or carrying the puck up ice very often at the Hull Rookie camps, but did overhandle it a couple times in his own zone or neutral zone. Read well of defence partner.

Future
Gleason looks like he came to the conclusion he wouldn?t make it as a pure offensive defenceman and put in the offseason work to round out the other parts of his game. As of now, it looks like a good decision. His coaches were more impressed with his style of play at the latest Hull Rookie tournament than the previous one. He added bulk to a frame that holds it well and sorted out his defensive shortcomings over the course of the past year. Gleason looks like with some more work, he could become a solid defenceman with decent offensive abilities. He will probably require a couple years in the AHL as he continues to develop his game, but he?s made leaps and bounds in development this past year. Should be an eventual top-four defenceman.

Smokes is gone anyways after this season, so I'm glad the Kings got Gleason in return. Hopefully we can sign him by the deadline. Smokes should help the Sens, it's just that he seems to disappear in the clutch and is famous for his long scoring droughts, but with the talent around him in Ottawa, maybe that will change.

ddubs,

I can comment as well on the Detroit angle since Windsor is the city in Canada right across the river from Detroit.

Avery is a player the Wings really didn't want to part with but knew they had to give something to get their guy (Schenider)

I agree in the Kings making out like bandits. Kuznetzov has been disappointing. He has monster like size...he truly is huge but he doesn;t play as physical as you would hope. He may develop still though...

The draft picks should help as well, but Detroit still has a plethora of "can't miss" prospects that they did not part with and that was their main concern during their search for a rearguard.

Add Gleason to the mix and I really like how things turned out for the Kings.

scoring drought---last year smolinski scored 2 goals in 50 games or so,(and they were both empty netters)

I'm glad to see him go!

he does disappear in the clutch, but he could come up big with all the talent around him in ottawa.

it seems when guys leave the kings they play their best hockey.

like the trades the kings made, should help us out a lot, props to dave taylor:toast:

card looks good horns

good luck everyone:D
