I got about 50 pages left in the 2nd of the Stieg Larsson trilogy...it will slow you down a little because of their length...take care, give the girls a hug and your significant other a KMA from me:mj07:

I've become infected and now I'm a slave to these books.

In an attempt to try something new, I stumbled upon World War Z. It is an end of days account written in a journal format. Author Max Brooks

It is a survival for humans greatest deterrent, the rise of the undead. I've never read anything like this but really enjoyed the plot ands the depth of thinking. Think survival guy Bear narrarates his survival technique.

8.5/10. Higher count because it is my first zombie experience and it was an intelligent account.

It didn't take long to quench my zombie hunger with Day by Day Armageddon J L Bourne which is also a journal of end of days taken through a naval officers narrative. Awesome.

8.5/10

Lastly I went ahead and finished the second in the series of Day by Day Armageddon: Beyond

Im on the road two weeks at a time... Lots of time on the treadmill with my ipad.

Ipad is a life changer. I can read pay bills and watch tv with a press of a button. Everyone should have one ESPECIALLY kids as a learning tool.

The ipad rocks!

2 more to add to the Mystery Category...........

1) "14" by JT Ellison.

She is the Nashville writer I have talked about and this was another great novel. 20 years ago, a serial killer stalked Nashville, murdering 10 young women. He was nicknamed the "Snow White Killer" because of the.........well,. you'll just have to read it to find out. Now, 20 years later, more murders are happening that appear to have the signature of Snow White.

Lieutenant Taylor Jackson and her Nashville PD investigate, with more than one interesting twist along the way.

4.5/5

2) "Promise Me" by Harlan Coben.

This is the 8th in his Myron Bolitar series. I am reading them in order..............1 more to go.......because his next book to come out on March 22nd, is the 10th in this series.

I'll be honest...............the last couple in this series were very dry and not great reading, and I said as much in this column. The characters had seemingly run their course.

So Coben took 6 years off from this series to write a few awesome stand alone books.....The Woods, Just One Look, Tell No One........ before finally returning and penning this novel.

And it was a great book. The time away did the characters well.......Coben made them seem fresh and relevant again in this mystery. He had some cameos from some of his other characters as well.

Bolitar asks 2 teenagers to promise that they will call him if they cannot get a sober rider home at any time. Sure enough 2 weeks later, one of them does just that. Bolitar drives her to a friends house in the middle of the night, but guess what............the next day she is gone, and he was the last to see her.

It was very good.

His next novel is called "Live Wire" and it is the 10th in the Myron Bolitar series, and it is coming out on March 22nd.

4/5

Am now reading my first Ruth Rendell......."Portobello"..........and have found the first 50 pages a very tough read. An English mystery, it has been a very high maintence read so far. Stay tuned.

Happy Reading !

The Mirror Test by Jeffrey Hayzlett

7/10

Overall, this book would not score this high, but there were a few really good nuggets that aren't talked about in most business books.

One being the power of relevant direct mail and how to use it effectively.

Now reading The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis

Most recent was Critias, a la Plato; about a dude--real or imagined--who tried to talk ole Soc outta consenting to Athenian tyranny.
Was good in the sense of discussing right action, via obligatory extremities and other inconveniences.

Hoping to score a David Perlmutter book on health, with a special emphasis on the grey-matter variety. New tome and softcover insn't av until March.

Still looking for a certain Nick Begich book. None of that HAARP shiite, but a more recent one.

Rock and read on.
cheers

14) **** The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine, Michael Lewis

Interesting look at why all the banks failed, and how they took their big profits and screwed America.

15) ***** Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, Laura Hillenbrand

Great book about WWII. Really inspirational, and I am now researching my grandfather's past and planning to write a memoir about his life. He is almost 90, still living and served in WWII and the FBI. This book makes you remember how important history and family really are.

16) **** The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Stieg Larsson

Great fast read, intriguing plot. The only reason I give it four instead of five stars is that I felt like the last 100 pages of falling action were anti-climatic and could have been left out of the story.

17) ***** The Girl who Played with Fire, Stieg Larsson

Great read again, even more intricate than the first one and no dull moments.

Now I have to wait a few weeks for the third one, as I am 10th on the waiting list at the library...

I'm glad you liked Unbroken. I'll have to read the Big Short next as I've read the others on your list already.

.....................

Just finished two books by ZA Recht both of the zombie genre. I think I'm burned out but great reads never the less for entertainment purposes.

plague of death
Thunder and Ashes

Good characters but not as connecting as author JL Bourne.

I am now into the JT Ellison series that Tiger hooked me into and will complete the whole 6 title series....they are all murder mysteries based in Nashville so its nice when you know all the streets, places, landmarks, restaurants etc they are talking about in the books:0074

The first two took my two days each to finish? I guess I am a bit of a "skim" reader, but I absorb everything I read. My eyes can't move fast enough for my brain.

I will check out JT Ellison - you like the books so far? I haven't been to Nashville for about 10 years, so the landmarks probably wouldn't mean much to me...

I've stumbled across a new e-book trading site. Haven't used it but looks to be gaining traction.

Ebookfling.com allows you to trade your ebooks with others saving you $$$ in the long run.
