I received a call from my HR dept indicating that my salary will be divided into 27 pay periods next year b/c I will be receiving a paycheck on 1/1/10 and another on 12/31/10.

I said that I will not accept this pay reduction, as the 1/1/10 check is for services rendered in the last 2 weeks of 2009. I was then put in contact with the CFO. CFO and I agreed to talk again next week because I did not buy his explanation.

Essentially, it appears to me that I will not be compensated for the final 2 weeks of 2009 if I allow for this pay reduction. I caculated the total hit on my gross pay at 3.8%.

I took the call on Christmas Eve, and left a message for my accountant. I will not talk with him until Monday, and the suspense over this matter is killing me. I am prepared to seek other employment in the event that I get screwed in this deal.

Anyone heard of this type of BS? Any suggestions as to how to argue my point effectively? I am prepared to seek other employment in the event that I get screwed in this deal.

Yes. Changed payment to bi-monthly from bi-weekly.

The only thing you have an argument about is if you will be paid less than what you and your employer agreed upon. I assume your base pay was agreed upon as an annual or monthly amount?

I will be shorted 1 pay period this year at my current 2-week rate. I will be paid exactly what I am owed next year.

You're not being paid less.

You sound confident. Can you please explain when I will be compensated for the last 2 weeks in 2009? I cannot get my head wrapped around this thing. I have always had a way with numbers (near perfect math score on ACT), but for the life of me cannot get this thing figured out.

I am very frustrated right now!

Companies just can't not pay you. Think about it.

I know what you are talking about because I looked at the exact same thing as you are looking at and it does look that way. Like I said, all that matters is that you are paid the amount that you were promised, no matter if it occurs in 26, 27 or 127 pay periods.

Aren't you always paid in arrears? So your 1/1 check would be for the last two weeks of Dec? If not then what does your 1/1 check cover, and how can they just not pay you for the last two weeks of Dec?

Although I can't think of why a company would want to pay you on 1/1 for your service the last two week of Dec.

These are my thoughts exactly. They are lowering my 2 week check total by 3.8% in 2010 b/c of 27 pay dates, but my contention is that the 1st of those pay dates is for the last 2 weeks of '09.

The check you receive 1/15/10 will pay you for the first two weeks of 2010. The check you receive 12/31/10 will pay you for the last two weeks of 2010.

On the course!
Do you think that they are KEEPING two weeks of your pay?????

I gotta be honest........if you told me that you were going to quit based on this fact, I'm not sure that I would want you working for me in the first place.

Every place that pays bi-weekly runs into a 27 check cycle as the years go by. Ours is this year.

You are NOT getting a pay cut.......you are getting an extra check. Since your pay is still the same over the course of the year, it has to be altered, obviously, per check. Nothing mysterious about this, Cie.

I have worked there for 31.6 weeks (31 weeks and 3 days)as of the end of this year. My w-2 for this year will compensate me for 29.6 weeks. My 2010 salary is not in question, as I will be paid 1/27th of my salary 27 times.

I will be shorted 2 weeks of pay in 2009. I do not need to look at my w-2, because I am holding my last direct deposit pay stub of the year right now.
