I know a guy who makes porcelain crowns. I asked him how much they charge the dentists for those things, and he told me their company charges $280/crown. Sounds like a lot of profit there.

It's not my area since I'm a pediatric dentist but that is a shitty crown at that fee.

Jack what procedure did you have done on the tooth after the root canal failed last year...an apicoectomy? If the guy who did the apico is also the one doing the implant he should credit the fee you paid towards the implant.

I can't comment too much on the fees since they are out of my area of expertise.

Jack implant failures are much higher in smokers, and in general higher in the maxilla (upper jaw) than the mandible. I would discuss this with whoever is doing the procedure.

To those who face the decision of having a root canal and crown done in the future, give strong consideration to having the extraction and implant. Even the best root canals can fail over time, it's still a tooth which can get new decay under the crown. When you get a titanium implant and it integrates into your bone that son of a bitch isn't going anywhere. The crown may fracture at some point but should last a long time. Since there's no natural tooth structure there, no way to get a new cavity on it, etc.

Jack not like I know you but from your personality posting on here I think the flipper will drive you nuts after a while. You are going to be much happier chomping into that ribeye with the implant than the flipper.

Yeh but chomping into the 8 grand will make you think about things

Do you realize how much infomercial shit Jack can get for that ? Keep him busy for a year or two.

if you get a flipper make sure you keep it out of reach of any dog's. They love to chew them up. I had to wear one when I was young and took it out at night. My grandmothers freakin dog ate it. The dentist said it happens all the time. something in the acrylic is like crack to those bastards.

Yup, apicoectomy. And people think a root canal is bad :mj07: This is like war time torture, baby!

The apico guy only does those and root canals and he never even made a hint about any kind of a refund. There is still an outside chance that #4 won't make it either because it had an apicoectomy as well and still shows some infection and the surgury was November. If I lose that tooth I have no idea what to do because that tooth is bridge tooth. Three more implants at $5K each? At that point I'm thinking what neverteaseit said. :sadwave:

I haven't been a smoker since I quit on August 10 :SIB

I think I better wear that flipper until they make damn sure I'm not gonna lose #4. Fuck!

Thanks for the reply.
