One thing that you're right about though. I could care less about the Iraqi civilians. I'm more concerned with the interests of the US.

I, and I'm sure everyone else here has the utmost respect for the people in action...and they are definately braver than me, you and everyone else who has never experienced the constant threat of death.

But, in reality, this has very little to do with the troops. It's their job. Their choice to be there. They simply get ordered to do something, and they trot off, do it, and hopefully make it back alive.

Is anyone here suggesting the troops in Vietnam weren't brave??...Absilutely not!
The comparison was simply made between the 2 'wars'.
Vietnam cost nearly 4000 US lives (countless civilians!!), and hundreds of millions of dollars...and what did it achieve?
It simply turned into a stubborn "WE WILL NOT BE BEATEN!" thing.

Over 55,000 Americans were killed in Viet Nam. To this day, I don't know why. All I can see is that apparently too much time has passed and we forgot the lessons of our involvement in that war. The real sad part is the kids that are getting killed (1000 +) and wounded (7000+) for the most part weren't born until after Viet Nam.
