team that got screwed with seeding and placement the most:
maryland....talk about no respect for the defending tourney champion. shouldnt that give you a somewhat favorable draw the next time in the tourney? terps are easily the most dangerous 6 seed in tourney and could make a legit run deep into the tourney. but they could also get bounced in the 1st round. defending champs draw a damn good unc-wilmington team in the 1st round? doubt williams is thrilled with this draw. if terps survive their 1st round game- they could be VERY dangerous. their game with wilmington scares me more than xavier. go figure

mid-majors that could have made a run if not for a rough draw:
creighton and central michigan. this is an intriguing matchup, but it sucks that theyre playing in the 1st round. and it sucks for 2 reasons.

1) it means one of them goes home the first night of the tourney

2) the winner has no chance of getting past duke 2 days later. as much as people want to believe in central michigan or creighton, the fact is duke will rip apart either team. as much as i like the mac and mid-majors, devils will smack either of these teams- and thats just being real.

committee should have done a better job placing these 2 good mid-majors away from each other, especially the first game.

team that has no business in the tourney
auburn

team that deserves to be here, but most dont think so:
alabama. they stumbled in the sec, but you gotta reward that schedule, plain and simple. and now that theyre in, they might go sneak up on people

SLEEPER THAT WINS THEIR FIRST TWO GAMES OUTRIGHT
tulsa, which will set up a rematch of last years kentucky/tulsa game in the tourney, in which tulsa performed very well before just running out of gas.

Not sure why Maryland should have gotten more respect. Did zilch out of conference, not one decent non-conference win and finished right about where they should have in a mediocre ACC. I think Memphis had a better season and they are a 7 seed. Mizzou and Okie St are other 6's, and both of them I thought had equal too or better all-around seasons.

Whoa!

Whoa!

G..you know I love your stuff but ......

team that got screwed with seeding and placement the most:

although the terps fit this bill it is memphis that gets this nod as they were one of the hottest teams down the stretch...

I agree with your rough draw and think many of them like Butler maybe just happy to get there....

finally bama had a tough schedule outside the SEC but they also failed within the SEC and alhthough I think they got lucky with the Hoosier draw and could win that one...but not deserved....

and I love tulsa too....

scoop:

really cant argue with you there. perhaps i should place memphis as a (1a) after maryland. memphis did get a sh1tty draw now that i look at it. they deserved better than a 7 seed and asu the first game with kansas the next

hoops:

maryland just strikes me as far far more dangerous than missouri or okie state. having said that, based on their resume- cant really argue with your point either. but no way would i want to play maryland in the tourney with all their experience and leadership that theyve got on that team. theyve got big time tourney experience that cant be ignored. missouri is dangerous, but theyre an "underdog" kind of dangerous. that probably doesnt make sense, as its hard to sometimes explain stuff on a computer, but terps and tigers still in two different classes. missouri is close to, but not quite, an elite team yet.

team that got screwed with seeding and placement the most:

I'd have to say it was Oregon! Ducks have two losses all season to teams not in the field of 65! Won 3 games in LA to win the P-10 tourney -- 2 games against the hot hometown teams.

Now they get an 8 seed, behind Indiana! The Ducks get to face Majerus' Utes for the right to face Kentucky. If they were the 7 seed they would get Bama & Gottfried. Huge difference in coaching w/ those matchups!

Memphis lost to So Fl & Austin Peay @ home this year. In their 12-1 end of the season run, 10 of those games were against C-USA also rans. They got an extremely favorable seeding IMO.

Notre Dame favored by -4 1/2 over UWM .... not to complain about a #2 seed but Kansas didn't get much respect either .... and don't get me started on Texas as a #1 in the South and then on to San Antonio for their regional. Pitt or Kansas deserved the other #1 seed that UT got ..... however let the games begin again on Thursday!!! March MADNESS!!

I have to agree.. why the HELL is Uconn only favored by 4 over BYU??? I thought it would be near 10... Gman or someone please explain how that makes any sense?!?!? I will play my entire account ML on Uconn... I know they arent going to lose 1st round... is it just me or is this line way off???

Musa:
Memphis didn't have massie, richmond, or hunt for the better half of their first 12 games. This team was one of the hottest down the stretch now matter how you slice it. If louisville is a 4 seed memphis should be no lower than a 6 seed. Not to mention the west bracket. without a doubt the most stacked region

Why do you think that tulsa will do deep? No respect for the A10? Given that they are playing my dayton flyers in the first round, I still don't think they will beat them...what quality wins does tulsa have? Dayton is a great club and with thier height advantage over tulsa "the whale" and Finn will be able to work the paint...and also dayton has proven that they can win this season and I see no reason why it stops now...

of the 4/13 games, Dayton has the thinnest line (-2) of them all. Louisville is the biggest chalk at -16. Seems to me, that is a big difference for similar seeded teams.

woizee:

to be perfectly honestly with you, im a little surprised that uconn line isnt a little higher. i expected uconn to be laying 6. huskies laying 4 is a little low. having said that, this is NOT an easy game for uconn. for starters, theyre traveling cross-country to play a very disciplined and veteran byu team. it will be a very pro-byu crowd in washington for sure. just a real tough game to cap. but as of now, i cant talk you out of uconn, because frankly- i think theyll advance, albeit in a very close game.

jcuaudi:

tulsa has a lot going for them. theyve got a ton of seniors, they shoot the 3 well, they shoot free throws well, theyve got tourney experience, they KNOW they can pull upsets (see marquette last year), theyre a HOT team. the list goes on. this is a dangerous team. swanson is a player. same with johnson. hurricane were a top 25 team this year in case some forgot. they hit a rough stretch, but really got their sh1t together near the end of the season. they also had a very good showing vs kansas this year. just feel tulsa wins their first two games in the tourney

I kind of like weber st +7. Wisconsin should win this game, but Wisconsin is not the most explosive team that blows you out. They play solid team ball and make few mistakes. With that being said, I have seen weber st 2 times this year and that pg of theres (his last name slips my mind right now) is very very explosive and can dominate a game. I think Webert st plays this game tough. They have goos outside shooters and slashers with a mix of decent rebounding. I think they keep it close and end up on the short end by 5 or so... +7 seems like a good line... just my opinion...

Holy Cross +11.5 over Marquette - Call me crazy but if they can come up with a decent defensive scheme to keep Wadefrom going buck wild, I think they have a chance to win outright.. they took kansas to the wire last yr...

Oregon Vs. Utah should be very interesting. Talk about 2 different styles of bball.. I have no clue on how to even start analyzing that game.. lol

woizee:

your post is right on the money on all 3 games.

weber state is very tempting. only hesistation is that wisconsin is coming in off a loss early in the big 10 tourney, so theyll be focused. but weber state is very good and should cause problems for wisky. could be a game where wisky wins but just doesnt pull away enough to cover

holy cross is enticing as well. they gained a lot of confidence by hanging with kansas last year, and theyre well-coached as well. although marquette is another team that bowed out of their conference tourney unexpectedly early and will be playing on a full weeks rest and will be prepared.

like you said, oregon/utah is impossible to cap. utah wants the game in the 50's. oregon wants it in the 80's. from time to time we come across games where teams have conflicting styles, but i dont know if i can remember a game THIS DRASTIC. i mean oregon is one of the highest scoring teams in the country. utah is one of the best defensive teams and most methodical offensive teams in the nation. like you said, how do you cap it? too tough

thanks for the info on tulsa...it's very easy to argue the other way for dayton...they really learned how to win this year with a squad that most didn't think could do it...after losing to st. louis and miami OH early in the year most thought they were doomed...but they went to duke and got it within 4 with 3 minutes left, beat marquette when they were #9, and suffered only two close losses to Xavier...after lossing to the boliermakers two years ago bc they couldn't make free throws, they aren't going to go away this year without a fight...

can't wait for the games bc they are going to be great!
