A little vent against a sponsor

As anyone knows that reads the Sportsbooks forum, I am constantly praising Gameday and how they operate. I do have one problem, though. I NEVER submit my primary email address to any site, but I decided to with Gameday. Ever since I joined, I get emails from every Joe Blow sportsbook and their offers (usually around 3-4 a day). I know most of you get these, but I am usually very careful with my email address, and Gameday is the only place that I can think of that has access to mine. Jack is the only other business, and I highly doubt that he is using it in this way.

To Gameday--I think it is very unprofessional and actually downright slimeball to use information that I submit to your site as a revenue stream. I specifically notate that I do not want any emails, and when you respond to the REMOVE link, they are always disabled.

This shows me that this business is still full of shady people. I guess I still need to keep my guard up against them.

On the course!
I started receiving these about two months ago. I have never given my real addy out to any book, so I don't know where these adds are coming from. (I get very few adds from anyone else at my real address, so it is very strange......)

Also.......don't EVER respond to the remove link on an e mail!!!!! This only proves to the sending company that the address is genuine, and you will get pounded with more shit! Just delete the stuff

Blocking also lets them know that your email address is valid. I wish there was a way to legitimately stop this crap from coming in.

As for responding to a remove link, I don't see how it can hurt. I guess they will take me off their list and sell it to other lists. That makes sense. I will stop sending remove notifications.

not defending Gameday but i think it's highly unlikely they would sell their member list to another sportsbook or even a company that promotes other sportsbooks. they are in a very competitive business and they don't want their members taking their business somewhere else. they want to keep their members forever, if possible.

i think it's just coincidence that you've started receiving spam after recently joining gameday.

To back dawg up, I set up an email adress at the onset of the Gameday constest specifically to use when signing up for these things. This is not the one I have listed on my page however.

I get more than 4 or 5 of these things a day, I also get TONS of them on Monday nights, probably 6-8. There is no doubt in my mind it is Gameday who did this, as they were the first one to have my email addy, and the ONLY ONE to have it while I started receiving these.

COMPLETELY unprofessional and simply unacceptable behavior by someone I put a good chunk of change through. Being a sponsor here does not give them carte blanche to abuse the system, I for one will not support companies that operate like this.

Employees and Tech people steal these lists and sell them all the time. I know that some of the bigger books in the industry have had their lists stolen at different points.

That it starts to happen right when you signup with Gameday is not a good sign though.

 I signed with 2 Euro books at same time at conclusion of pga tour and have been swamped by emails I never heard of.
Took the time one day to do tracer route and most originate out of one or 2 domains. I am not sure but it appears these could be a situation of the intial books not selling them but a 3rd party down the chain.I have always used Norton firewall but recently put in new puter at office and installed Zone Alarm that unlike Nortons it actual lists where probes come from and has world map that pinpoints location they come from and you would be astounded by some of these countries that probe.
I have heard there is software program out called Revenge but have not been able to locate it YET! It basically will put an email addy on 22 different mailing list at one time. If I locate it,I will do tracer route on junk mail and see how these the people where this shit originates like the idea.
You might note that most junk mail has fake return address even if you go to headers in properties the (from) address is also fake, however right after it will be an IP address like this
[555.55.555.55] which in most cases can not be faked. If you want to take the effort you can track it. I have some free time in winter months and my project this winter is revenge on spammers.

Maybe it's because I signed up last March, but I have a Gameday account and haven't gotten any of the emails you guys are talking about. I hope its not them, because if it were, you guys are right. That would be very, very unprofessional.

Dawgball, is your email Outlook Express. If it is, I can tell you how you can make it so those emails go straight to your "Deleted File" folder. It comes in handy for things such as this. Atlleast, you will never see them in your "Inbox".

One shop I know will suspend your account access IF they discover your email address on file is not valid ! IT IS one of the books listed above.

I dont care though let them send them,... the only drawback I have is possible carpal-tunnel from flexing my right index finger on the DELETE BUTTON .

Seriously I bet I kill 30 emails a day and it doesn't take me more than 2 minutes !

Send them boys ! ZAP ! GONE ! :bigun:
