As someone mentioned, if you have reflux it is a sign of a problem. Taking anti-reflux medicine does not fix that problem. And over time, as many of you have mentioned, your body will learn how to counter-act that medicine and still remind you that there is a problem.

Just sayin

What do the ancient Egyptians, Assyrians, Chinese, Greeks, and Romans have in common? They all recognized honey as a powerful treatment for a variety of medical conditions. In fact, records show that honey has been prized for its natural healing properties as far back as 3000 BC.1,2

During the mid-20th century, the era of modern antibiotic medicine began ? and the use of honey as a medicinal treatment fell out of favor. Although antibiotics were initially heralded as the most effective weapon against bacteria, over time antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria began to develop. Today, many pharmaceutical companies aren?t developing new antibiotics because of this growing problem.3

That?s why there?s an urgent need for a new non-antibiotic treatment to fight infection.

Mully, if the Prilosec OTC didn't work for you, don't bother with the omeprazole..... they are the same thing.

Jack, I'm surprised that quitting the cigarettes didn't improve the problem for you. I, too, went through all of the prescription medications, including Axid, Prilosec, Tagamet, Pepcid and others. The only things that would help were Nexium and Prevacid. Once I lost my insurance, my options dried up. Prilosec (omeprazole) twice daily or OTC Prevacid help but aren't really affordable to me right now. One thing you can do that really does help is elevate the head of your bed or sleep with a wedge. The problem (and the resultant damage) is usually worse at night due to gravity. When you're reclining, the acid makes its way up from your stomach. Elevating the head of the bed helps "keep it down". It looks silly as Hell but is effective. Also, avoid eating before you go to bed and stay the Hell away from anything fried!

Something to remember, stomach acid is hydrochloric acid. It is an industrial corrosive. The stomach has mucus and a protective lining that protect it from acidic destruction but your esophagus doesn't. You really should have it checked (if your doctor recommends) by endoscopy, under sedation if necessary.

Seriously, try putting blocks under the bedposts and see if it helps.

makes perfect sense....

I do have it also but I have weaned of the meds.
I was taken IC Omeprazole in capsule form.
It was a generic form of pill. One day it just went away. When it did flair up man was it painful.

I do get it but nothing like I used to .I had acute acid gas for almost 3years.Stress can also cause it.
Stay out of the political forum, lol.

Thanks for the replies.

When the insurance quit paying for the Prevacid, I was put on Nexium 40MG but this stuff doesn't work as well. When I filled the prescription a few weeks ago I asked the pharmacist what other options there are. She told me to take Prevacid because it's over the counter now and I used to take 30MG so take two.

Anyway, it got me to thinking about finding out the reasons I have this and options I have in getting it fixed.

thanks

The Upstate
I got on Kapidex a few months ago, they just recently changed the name, but I have not had any acid reflux since (knock on wood), use to get it bad after drinking red wine, smoking, etc...

Insurance wasn't going to pay for it, but they sent me a card for $55 off a prescription each time and it costs me $13 for a two month supply, in fact I need to get it refilled, thanks for the reminder.

Above the Clouds....
Guess I must be one of the lucky ones with a cast iron stomach. I can eat anything anytime and it doesn't bother me.

Pizza for breakfast anyone?

Since I have only been drinking a 12 pack or so on Saturday's only I haven't been having any problems.

I had my semi-annual checkup on Wednesday, told doc about it, he ordered me an Upper GI, had that done yesterday and got the clean results today

Doc says everything is fine and to continue with the meds as needed
