I am interested in whether anybody here knows anything about break-dancing. Any tips about where I can find pertinent info, techniques, ect beyond what I already know(detailed below) would be greatly appreciated. I really believe that I have what it takes to be world-class material talent-wise, but I need a mentor, whether it be via video or personal consultation.

I have already mastered Alfonso Ribiero's classic, 'safe way to break', and frankly I was very impressed and disappointed at the same time. I mastered his 'king tut' manuever in only 7 days, yet somehow I felt somewhat cheated because he was SO safety oriented. He really didn't let it all hang out and as a result, his students were left wanting more.

Then I tried Tito Spezia's ' break of your life'. This was more advanced stuff, but he had little regard for 'safety'. He taught how to spin on the head without causing dizzyness, but he forgot to mention the horrible floor/rug burns that can ensue if ones technique is even the least bit off-center. While I credit him for giving me the confidence to spin on my head in a busy nightclub, I also 'credit him' for several of my trips to the hospital. Mainly for 3rd degree burns.

When I came across Thor's renowned, ' the worm and you', I thought I had found nirvana. His instructional video was so detailed and so user friendly that I learned how to tic and how to do the worm in less than 3 full days. I had never seen anything like this. But when I went to the regional competition in Mobile, AL last month, everybody laughed at me. They said, and I quote, " your moves are SO last decade". Naturally, my self-esteem hit an all-time low and remaind there five weeks later.

Hence my request here to ANYBODY who knows the latest developments in this terribly difficult discipline to pint me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance!

njsf,

I appreciate the help. You are correct, sometimes you just need to 'feel it'. For instance, I was once in a competition in Amarillo,Texas and the song I was performing to was Biz Markie's, 'Girl, you got what I need'. Now, it wasn't exactly a 'popular' break-dancing song, but i'll tell you what, those cowboys went NUTS when I did my double spin/worm combo. Then when I did my 'reverse tic/king tut' throwout, well, I don't need to tell ya. That crowd was putty in my hands.

K-money,
Gotta tell ya, this couldn't happen at a better time.

I've been considering a fusion of break dancing with bluegrass. You know, forget the clogging and the clod hoppers. This, as I see it now -- embryonic stage of course -- could well be more of a cultural shake up than my attempt to engage ball room dancers to show their stuff to, no, not polkas, but rather Pink Floyd. You can imagine the result.

This is your chance, :) , to get in the door in the opening stages.

Polecat,

I'm very interested in hearing more about your break-dance/bluegrass idea. I think that it's brilliant and has tons of potential. Get in touch with me through Jack. I would love to get in on the ground floor!

IE,

I remember the 'chew and spit'. Man, does THAT bring back memories. Thanks for the support, man!

Jack,

I had thought about performing for the group at half-time at the SB party. Seeing as how Britney isn't performing at the game this year, I think people might get a little bored during halftime.

I'm sure you remember the deafening roar at the party that Britney got last year when she started her routine. Well, I have to humbly say that the reaction that I would get would make that seem like polite applause.

I will pack 2 pairs of parachute pants (metallic gray and dark purple) , just in case I decide to do it. The number one rule of breaking is: always wear attire that allows for comfort and utility. Let alone the fact that with my shiny gray ones, the effect of the lights hitting the pants is spectacular. It makes Pink Floyd's light show look lame.

Anyways, i'll think about it.
