(CNSNews.com) - Former Vice President (and global warming aficionado) Al Gore deserves an award for hypocrisy, says the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.

The group, which studied Gore's electric and natural gas consumption, says his mansion in Belle Meade area of Nashville "consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year."

In his documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, Gore urges Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home, the group noted.

"The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) a year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh-more than 20 times the national average," the Tennessee Center for Policy Research said in a news release.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh -- consuming more than twice as much electricity in one month as the average American family uses in an entire year. Gore's average monthly electric bill topped $1,359, the research group said.

Likewise, the natural gas bills for Gore's mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 a month last year.

"As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use," said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research said.

The irony of it is astounding. What, he's been on this campaign for 4 years, maybe. And harping on something that has no science to back it up no less.

Might as well have given it to michael moore.

There's plenty of science on both sides of this fence. Now whether anyone cares to try to discuss the issue and man's effects on our planet in any way or just summarily dismiss it as left wing kookiness, that's another matter. There are issues that surely can be attributed to what man has done on this planet in the past hundred or so years...to say that science cannot prove that at all is pretty silly, in my opinion.

There has been science proving various forms of man-made problems on this planet posted in these threads, and we have argued about them. The dismissive nature about Gore and the issue without any real discourse is pretty prevalent in the conservative theory, IMO. Funding and the search of it is very prominent on both sides, and has a role in both sides and their opinions and findings. But again, to simply dismiss it really says a lot about the position to begin with.

There's microclimate and macroclimate. Examing the climate patterns back to dinosaurs reveals there are periods of extreme warmth and extreme cold. These are microclimates, and in sum make up the macroclimate. No legitimate science can prove that the recent climate changes aren't just another shift in microclimate. I can read evidence all day long that the ozone is shrinking, but you cannot prove with science that these things are responsible for the current shifts. Do you think this is the 1st time the polar caps have shown melting? etc etc etc.

What does global warming have to do with Peace?

--absolutely nothing--didn't know anyone took Norways political ventures serious--especially after Arafat and Carter

Kinda like your your oscars-emmys- foreign films-
Directors Guild of America on documentaries ect ect
--all you need is message promoting their ideas whether factual or not.

Critics' Corner

Not everyone is celebrating Al Gore's Nobel Peace Prize for his global warming efforts. Retired climatologist Timothy Ball tells Cybercast News Service that Gore's movie ? "An Inconvenient Truth" ? is a "wonderful piece of propaganda" that relies on "visual imagery and gimmickry."

Earlier this week a British judge ruled that the movie had at least nine major errors and could not be shown to students without balancing information. Thursday, the BBC alleged that Gore knew his movie presented false facts, but was afraid any uncertainty would fuel global warming skeptics.

JunkScience.com publisher Steve Milloy says if that is true, "Gore should win the Nobel Prize for propaganda." And Czech President Vaclav Klaus says he is surprised Gore would get a peace prize, noting "The relationship between his activities and world peace is unclear and indistinct."

The West Australian newspaper reports the New Zealand Center for Political Research has written to the president of the group that produces the Academy Awards, contending that the alleged scientific errors in the movie disqualify it for the Best Documentary award.

The president of the group says the situation is similar to when championship athletes are found to be on steroids or other drugs and their victories and medals are nullified.

i mean,wtf......if "The Goracle" (TM pending) can do all this, why not "The Wease"?......

who would have thought that getting a chochke would make the news?....i can buy one at the dollar store without the fanfare.....

could you imagine if everyone who bought a paperweight was given an attaboy?....

"djv wins shiny thing!"....lol

unless,of course, it`s in california(in cali.,there are no more mantels to display them... seeing as how they've outlawed fireplaces).....
