I have a few questions. I also read an article about the events that precipitated this "showdown". http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/video-cops-gun-homeless-man-illegal-camping-article-1.1731764

I understand the police rooting out a vagrant who was probably talking crazy and camped in an illegal place. That's perfectly fine with me. What I don't understand is why did they shoot the flashbang? He was surrendering. Why shoot him with real bullets multiple times THEN shoot him with the bean bag gun? Wouldn't the bean bags have been a better first option? This seems like excessive force to me, and I almost always am on the side of the LEOs.

Soapbox start... People with mental illnesses typically do not get the care they need. The emergency rooms are full of people with mental illness, and unless they have suicidal thoughts that they express, they usually are treated and streeted for followup at the local agency (which almost never happens). It's really a sad, sad thing in our society, and nobody wants to talk about it or even say it is real or a problem. They're just crazy anyway, right? I don't know the answer, but I know it's a broken system. Sadly, many people with these problems end up like this poor bastard. Soapbox end...

I was the video twice, and still couldn't figure out what he was saying. Didn't sound like he was threatening them harm. The guy did have two knives, but he was about 25 feet away from the cops and made no gesture towards him. I agree flash bang and then beanbag should've been used.

What a shame. Fucking gun nut, gun happy cops, what a way to go. A bunch of dick fucks. The fucking guy is listless and the one fucker still has his gun pointing at him huffing and puffing, adrenaline nuts. If this is how cops are trained, then I think there should be a little bit of change to the training. Fuckeras

"Drop the Knife!" Useless stupid fucks.
