I understand the police rooting out a vagrant who was probably talking crazy and camped in an illegal place. That's perfectly fine with me. What I don't understand is why did they shoot the flashbang? He was surrendering. Why shoot him with real bullets multiple times THEN shoot him with the bean bag gun? Wouldn't the bean bags have been a better first option? This seems like excessive force to me, and I almost always am on the side of the LEOs.
Soapbox start... People with mental illnesses typically do not get the care they need. The emergency rooms are full of people with mental illness, and unless they have suicidal thoughts that they express, they usually are treated and streeted for followup at the local agency (which almost never happens). It's really a sad, sad thing in our society, and nobody wants to talk about it or even say it is real or a problem. They're just crazy anyway, right? I don't know the answer, but I know it's a broken system. Sadly, many people with these problems end up like this poor bastard. Soapbox end...
