What is the "thing" the protesters and rioters want resolved?

I was thinking a federal law that prevents closed door verdicts for police officers involved in the death of a citizen?

I don't know. Not sure what makes protesters say....we need this thing to change....no one listing demands that know of.

How about stopping the Lynching of Black Americans well over 100 years after they were set free. The look in that cops. ,eyes. for 8 minutes that snuffed out an innocent life like this was eliminating some form of vermin should chill every american.

At a local level, they want at least police reform (including both greater accountability and transparency). Some want the police completely defunded, if not outright disbanded.

At the federal level, they want congress to take up meaningful legislative action and not just send a couple tweets and move on. Ending qualified immunity would be a good start.

At the presidential level, they want acknowledgment that the problem exists and that he's making it a priority to address.

There has been some traction on the first - the second will be harder and takes longer - and the third has no chance with the current occupant.

I think the early protests were fueled by anger and frustration. Over the last week it has picked up so much steam that right now it is carrying on under its own inertia. And it's just a reality that the unemployment rate is 13.3% overall and 16.8% for black americans. That's a lot of people who currently have a lot of free time on their hands. Some basically view protesting as their new job - at least for now.

We're 5 months away from another extraordinarily divisive presidential election, at a time when the whole country is already a simmering pot of cabin fever. The Romans built the Colosseum so that the sport there would distract the people from revolting. Well there's no sports right now either. This thing isn't slowing down - it's ramping up.

Everything you said makes sense, but I'm not hearing that from protesters. All I hear/see is BLM.

I'm starting to wonder if this is too big of a problem to fix and when August comes this will all be fading away. Hope not. It needs to ramp up like you said.......holy shit.....what if that cop is found not guilty. Seriously doubt that will happen though. I don't see this going anywhere without federal action. At all.

They want equality. This isn't getting fixed overnight.

The conversation has never been met head on and stayed on topic over the years.....

I could never understand the riots, now I get it.....Voices are being heard and some are changing their ways....FWIW Kap was spot on I for one was wrong, dead wrong about the kneeling....

There are different local and National wants, but like others, it is about BLM. Still unbelievable over 150 years ago the Emancipation Proclamation instilled, and here we still sit today. I travel the entire state of Georgia to hospitals and hatred is still alive and well in so many small towns, makes me cringe. Generations of same families carry "the grudge, hate" feeling for what reason I am not sure. Both sad and disgusting.

When it came to the BLM thing last time around, I was on the "No shit, all lives matter" bandwagon. I didn't understand it, but I think I get it now.

If you have never been to a blm protest.... how do you all the sudden get it?
Or understand what they want
Oh because the news and all the idiots on the news tell us how it really is....

And no or know ? I?m not talking to you whathisnuts. I?m talking to to everyone in this thread.....

Until you have been to one of these shit shows .... you have no idea what this bullshit is all about... not the slightest clue..

Did the news ever show you pallets of bricks neatly placed along side of the road just outside of these protests? Im talking nice bricks that you would I buy at bourget bros

Majority of these idiots protesting don?t have a fucking clue what they?re there their talking about.

Mayor garshit went on a hip hop radio show yesterday with that little undercover fruit loop nick cannon..... we need ?peace officers? not police officers....

How about this
?We don?t need to be sending a police officer who carries a gun to a domestic violence call...?. Okay send your peace officer so the abuser can beat the shit out of him or her too to and two....

If the democrats can?t control it then they whine and wine and manipulate and lie until they have mind fucked you so bad no other way of thinking can be accepted... Facebook, Twitter... all these social media platforms are made to have you think one way.... and if you say something or post something that doesn?t agree with what they?re there and their saying then it?s ?harmful? information and taken down........

HahHahH let?s keep watching cnn and mscnbc and our local bullshit instead of going out for ourselves and seeing what this bullshit is all about.... instead putting two to and too together let?s just sit here and listen to the news.

Racism is a belief that one race is superior to the other or the practice of treating a person or group of people differently on the basis of their race.

On the course!
If these guys want to kneel, great. Knock yourselves out.

But when Drew Brees says he will stand with hand over heart to honor his grandfathers who fought in WWII, he's now not sympathetic to the "movement"? Fuck that.

AND he gets brow beat to apologize? Fuck that again!!

If you're black, and I disagree with you, I am automatically a racist. I cant just be in disagreement.

Frankly, I'm tired. I'm tired of hearing how ashamed I should be for being white. I'm tired of being the reason, as a race, you haven't been able to make something of yourselves in 400 years. Why aren't Asians protesting? Hispanics?

The one question that rarely gets asked of black Americans:

"What have you done to better your life?"

If they have a good answer for that, you probably aren't seeing them marching in the streets.
