TL, you have to look no further than last week to see I'll bet against Alabama, but does the fact Msu gives up so many pts not bother you in this one ?
Uab 34
Lsu 29
A&m 31
Aub 23
Ky 31... Not numbers you would expect from a #1 ...
Only if you completely disregard the whole concept of "context within the game"...
UAB - firmly believe they didn't practice for UAB or USA and spent 3 weeks prepping for LSU. And multiple scores by the Blazers in this one were lucky as hell hail marys.
LSU - Did you watch the game? They were up 34-10 with 13 minutes left and went into prevent defense. If it was a close game they would have held them to 10 points total, but it was out of hand.
A&M - Again, Did you watch the game? They were up 48-17 with 5 minutes left and went prevent, because the game was not lose-able. At this point the last 14 points were probably scored against walk-ons.
Auburn - There are maybe a dozen defenses in the country that can hold Auburn's offense too 23 points or less. 3 weeks after this, Auburn put up 35 against OMiss who had the #1 defense in the country
Kentucky - This is the only one that could cause any amount of legitimate concern. But after MSU is coming off huge games against LSU, A&M and Auburn, then going on the road vs. Kentucky... it's pretty easy to see a defensive performance like that happening. Not to mention 3 big passes of 50+ yards by UK that all led to or resulted in a TD.
Now my question for Alabama backers: Does their lack of an offensive pulse against teams with any semblance of a defense worry you?
OMiss - 1 offensive touchdown
Arkansas (loosely qualifies as a semblance of a defense) - 10 first downs. 220 yards. 2 Touchdowns
LSU (also loosely qualifies given what other teams have done vs. them) - 15 1st downs. 315 yards. 2 Offensive TDs (only 1 in a 60 minute football game and 1 in OT where you get the ball on the opp 25 :mj07: ).
All I've heard is how different of a team they are at home... that just doesn't fly with me. It's the most arbitrary excuse I've heard in a long time trying to use offensive performances against two of the worst defenses in the country as your proof.
Long winded post. And before I get any "Shut up Aubbie homer" comments, if you've been on this board for more than 4 months you'd know I bet on Bama a LOT in recent years that I had season long threads
