In the interview on 60 minutes he said it would only be for deliveries that are close to their facilities. A drone like the one they used in the interview could be had for less than 1k. It won't be any slower than relying on UPS in those areas. Instead of it being out on a truck all day it will go straight to the house and back to the facility. I actually think it would end up being much cheaper than normal delivery. You take away the cost of the big truck, a driver and gas. You have a 1k drone and electricty to charge the little battery.
I'm not saying it's a guarantee but I think it's realistic for deliveries within a certain radius. It's not like you need someone controlling it like a military drone. You simply load, enter the location and it's off by itself and then comes back.
If you don't think it is then you should be a cheap one of these and check them out. Pretty awesome stuff.
