Called Amex myself few weeks back myself--have brokerage account for years with them and one of perks was got gold card fee waived.
Got notice this year that they would no longer be continueing that perk--have anniversary date in march and thought I'd try an get out of paying fee. called them and explained I had it waived in past and had card since 1978 and could not not see paying fee on card and "bluffing" asked if they didn't waive fee should I cash in my miles before expiratation date.
Her only comment was they hate to lose me after allthese years but would not waive fee.
-so much for loyalty--will keep it anyway and pay fee-- would feel odd without it in billfold for some reason.
