My a/c went out at my house on Sunday, so in a panic and being hot my wife called a repair guy, he came out and checked out our a/c Monday only to tell me that it was the capacitor that needed to be replaced. Well, he did not have the correct one so he rigged up one and came back today. He checks the freon and says its a little low on freon and says he wants to go into the attic and look at both units, 2nd unit that runs upstairs is okay according to him, but there is some sort of problem with downstairs unit. He goes up there with me right behind to make sure he is not going to try to pull the wool over my eyes and try to scam me out of money. He immediately tells me I think its the evaporator coil that is the problem and takes the panel off to look at it. He opens it and tells me that part of it is not working, how in the hell could part of it not work? and it needs to be replaced only for a low price of 2,325.00, so I start questioning him and ask him how long will it work without not doing anything more than replacing the capacitor? Well, it could be 2 days, 2 months or two years before you have to have it fixed, and your evaporator coil could have been flawed since day one. I don't know what to do:shrug: My wife wants to get a second opinion and I think its working right now so just wait till it breaks again and get fixed or the problem has been solved by replacing the capacitor? Right now I think I am being scammed and these people are not with BBB either, so they are hiding something. What would you do? need some advise

Same thing happened to me. Asshole HVAC guy said I needed to repair the E Coil and said the exact same thing - vould be 2 days, 2 weeks, 2 years.

I am going on 8 months and the thing works fine.

I was quoted about the same price as you....

capacitor is fixed and works better than ever right now, in this case Obama has nothing to do with it. I need sound advise, I think the guy is raking me over the coals, capacitor was 338 bucks to fix

Here's your solution...

http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/hvac/msg020731022122.html

Get a tool belt, and make sure the wife sees you wearing it...

Fix the a/c but bang on some shit real loud before you finish... make it look hard... carry extra tools up there and keep eye contact as you head up the stairs...

:mj09: and she'll be :142hail: and the sex will be a :padlock:

the capacitor was 168 bucks and 170 labor, I got fucked, not doing anything right now

If they werent registered with the BBB why did u allow them in your house? Best advice----run it until it breaks, once it goes...send the family upstairs where the unit is properly working so they can relax. then u go sit in that gas guzzling SUV running with the a/c on max and place a garden hose thru the window coming from the exhaust:sadwave: GOOD LUCK

He obviously was white then. Why don't you trust him. Was he Jewish? Probably not because he wouldn't be fixing A/C's. Eastern European?
