Looking to NC as a possible state to relocate to from Illinois. Anyone from the state or with knowledge of it willing to share some opinions?

I relocated here for school 9 years ago from NJ and while I have to leave for my residency this summer, I will be back the second I'm done. You can get my email from Jack or post any questions here. I live in Chapel Hill (UNC) and know the state well from the coast (wilmington), to raleigh, to charlotte and the mountains (asheville etc). To me the quality of life in unbeatable. Affordable, excellent weather, beautiful beaches, mountains a few hours away, the nicest people in the world, your dollar gets you a lot here. To me really it just can't be beat. The state is getting a lot of new residents, raleigh is one of the fastest growing cities in the US. Word is getting out.

Also, ajoytoy lives in Raleigh or Cary and I'm sure would be happy to chime in as well.

Thanks for the responses. I've sent an email to admin to get the email addresses. Hope that 's how you do it.

Been reading/hearing a lot about rain and high humidity in the summers and mosquitoes. Now I've lived in Florida and Lousiana so I know all about rain, humidity and mosquitoes but have enjoyed not having to deal with the humidity and mosquitoes in Illinois. I don't want to head to the deep south again so I was looking for a state that was farther south than I am but would still allow me to enjoy the four seasons.

Mickey, just got married and the wife wants me to move to Winston Salem. Her Sister lives there and her father just moved down there from here(ri). I've been researching it and going back and forth on(hard decesion). Went there last year and the cost of living is great compared to RI. Same 200,000 house down there goes for 400,00-450,000 up here. Going to be a tough to say No in the coming years. If you get some good info keep me posted please. Also ask jack for my E-mail I'd like to keep in touch and have another side for input. Good Luck P.S. for you NC'ers any word on getting a pro Baseball team(Flor, etc.) That would help in the decision. Thanks Steve

The idea of a pro baseball team has come up...I too am hoping for that.

Also, there are casinos on indian reservations but they have no live card games...but it was on the news tonight that they are pushing hard for them. With the passing of the lottery recently i think it will only be a matter of time.

It does get hot in the summers but the heat, humidity and mosquitos are no worse than in NJ.

I came down here kicking and screaming and wouldn't let myself like it. After I stopped being a moron and opened my eyes I realized what I found.

A LOT of people from the northeast have been coming here for the lower cost of living.

saint or ajt, any feedback on huntersville NC??

I asked a buddy from south carolina and he said if $ wasn't a factor, he would live there, I recall driving through that town on the highway when I visited him. I saw many marine crafts and such, looked very upper class. Feedback?

huntersville considered a lake norman community
a beautifyul, lake very big
20 miles from center city charlotte
only problem is if you have to commute to charlotte its on I-77 and the traffic is terrible

link for a paper covering that area

9 out of 10! Great place to live.
The only problems:
no horseracing, full casinos near
highest taxes of most states
Overall, Great.

thank you sir

Anywhere around lake norman (huntersville etc) is a beautiful place to live. As large said, it's high demand so it's pretty expensive to live there but if you can hack it that would be a place to do it. Nice big lake and right outstide charlotte...but as large said, commuting into/out of charlotte at rush hour on 77 is a nightmare. Charlotte itself is a nice little city but it's too far from the coast for my taste and is also a bit pretentious. Banking is big in charlotte and there are a lot of young guys making 100k in investment banking working 80 hrs a week who think they are hot shit. Good scene to pick up chickenheads though.
