I have a wireless setup in my house that worked fine with the old laptop but isn't working so well with the new laptop. The download speed is VERY SLOW.
I am not sure what could possibly be the problem considering the following:

The desktop downloads at over 300 KBS
The laptop on wireless downloads at 38 KBS
The laptop when connected by a wire downloads at over 300 KBS
The signal strength meter from the router lists the connection as "Excellent" with spreed of 11.0Mbps

Where am I losing speed?

Does your new laptop have an internal wireless card? If so what kind? What kind of router are you using?

Appreciate it if you can check in, even if it's tomorrow. The connection works, but is much slower than it should be so it's not a pressing issue.

The router is a Linksys BEFW 11S4

How old is the router? I just bought my mom a dell inspiron e1705 and it had the same type of problem. Then I bought her a netgear rangemax router because her router was a couple years old and that cleared up the problem.

one thing is that your router is a B only, which means it will max out at 11mbs. But your laptop can go even faster with the card it has in it.

You also might try to update the firmware (software) of the router to improve some performance and give you more options: Click the link below to update your firmware. There are several different versions of yoiur router, you will need to look at the bottom:

Do you have any programs running that are using a lot of bandwith also?

Do you have it secured or can I sit outside your place and surf the web from your router

There has been some known issues with some of the Linksys Wireless G routers. I would try a firmware upgrade to see if htat makes it more stable

Boys, I rebooted the router and I get a message pop up from the icon tray that says:

Windows system error--There is an IP conflict with another computer on the system"

Funny thing is that now the laptop is LIGHTNING fast!?!?!?
