as a person that`s basically ambivalent on the issue(but absolutely believes in a "domestic partners bill of rights")i think we have to be a little more careful with this "hateful" meme and labeling everybody that disagrees with your own p.o.v. as a monster or bigot...

i`d wager that 80 to 90% of the parents of posters on this board agree (to some extent) with "traditional marriage" as one of the linchpins of their belief system....it`s always been that way for them.....are thay haters and monsters?...no,they aren`t...they just have a more traditional belief system.....

and apparently, they aren`t the minority that you would think they are (based on the representation on thiis board)...

polls say that a slight majority agree with ssm... .but they`re just polls and can be skewed based on the pollster`s agenda and sampling methods..........the truth is that when this issue was put to a referendum,it`s been voted down in state after state (unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your p.o.v.)....

a large majority of african americans don`t agree with ssm(probably for the same or similar reasons as cathy)...they aren`t all bigots...the president was all for traditional marriage up until a few months ago and i doubt that he would be consdered a hateful bigot by those throwing that label around...and speaking of the struggle of african americans in this country and the ssm issue, they aren`t the same....one is a civil rights issue...the other a human rights issue...

i`m just trying to make the point that theres an awful lot of nuance involved in the issue and the name calling probably isn`t going to win over many hearts and minds...

Get this, this is exactly why I get pissed at mainstream partisan media. In this video, the reporter gives her report but listen carefully to how she clearly shows her position with subtle little nuances. She points out how great support was for those that agree with Cathy, and how only a dozen or so on the other side. Then when she talks about the Baptist Church that bought 250 sandwiches on pro Cathy day she states, "while the church agrees with their right to protest they don't agree with their sin". Then if you read the article attached, it is changed to "what some believe to be wrong." It is very subtle but still bullshit. Do you realize that if you really want to get just the news about our country's goings on you have to watch Al-Jazeera or BBC on an international feed. Fucking pathetic.

Mostly agree. I can't really expect half the country to change there mind in the course of a decade. I look at it as about 1% of the country changes there mind every year, and in just a little while longer it will be a largely moot point.

But it sure is crazy how this issue will just NOT go away. Even in a largely heterosexual male sports blog it comes up weekly. It is at the front of the mind the whole country whether we like it or not.

What's sooooo fucked up about this is that Cathy doesn't own this restaurant and won't suffer any of the financial cost to fix this particular Chic Fil A. I certainly don't expect him to offer to pay to get the place repainted nor is he going to pay for any losses they will suffer because of his ignorance to his franchisee's and their plight.

What a dick Cathy is.

Yep that was the point i was making until i saw a few others make a similar post. I say what i want but when i had my shop i didn't say shit and let anyone talk while my opinions stayed to myself. What this guy did to his franchise owners is why the top guy can make a blunder at any moment and hurt everyone underneath him.

Agree with the first part IMF. Change occurs in generations not years.

As to the second part.

It has been thrown in our faces daily by the same people be it on a sports blog or the media. I assure you this issue has not been at the front of everyones mind, because outside of seeing this thread when I log on, I cant remember having a single conversation about it. This was just another opportunity for the extremes on each side to display their hate and contempt for the other. There was a time in this country that the two sides subscribed to Voltaire's "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it" The extremes of each side have grown exponentially today, so now if someone does not hold "their" values then they try to muzzle them or worse. Kind of ironic given that Voltaire would have undoubtedly supported the current fight for ssm.

What did you think of the video. I know it is really subtle and some may disagree but if I notice it, I am sure others do. I find it funny that most people just choose to ignore it.

Hope that helps,
FDC

Not supporting something does not equate to hate. GW did a great job making that point much more eloquently than I could have.

There's more hate in the person who defaced that franchise than the owner's of CFA.

I tried the polynesian sauce on my spicy chicken and it was good but I am back to the buffalo sauce.

I ate there 3 times this week.

Man, you HAvE to try the new breakfast burritos they have. They are a different kind of delicious. Just when I thought the chick minis were the best breakfast fast food around, they outdid themselves with this burrito.

I also love that Polynesian sauce. :0074

FDC, your mainstream media comment made me do this  literally.

Keep making that delicious chicken, boys and girls or boys and boys; I really don't care. Huge non-issue to me if two men or two women want to marry each other. For those who think homosexuality is a sin and forbidden in the Bible, well it is. However, so is gluttony and gossip which I'm sure a lot of those Chik-Fil-a patrons are guilty.

You can't pick and choose sins. All men sin. A sin is a sin is a sin in the eyes of God.

Everything about their food is great. I use them at least twice a week for lunch and learns I give and spend 150-200 each time. My Lab techs love it, and at the end of the day, it is FOOD people eat, not words out of a persons mouth.

Sponge comment about his words hurt EVERYONE below him is bullshit. Hurt the franchise owners????? BULLSHIT! In Corporate and Franchise America there are Leaders in companies with skeletons in their closet and worship this, and fetish on that, and hate this, and love that. People have gone sooooooo overboard on a Company that makes THE best chicken sandwich. This too, shall pass in time.

Sixfive, I have to try the burritos, I think you said.
