I have had my right shoulder cut three times and all three were to repair the rotator cuff or Labrum, as well as repair the bicipital tendon. My left I have had operated on twice for cuff and cartilage issues both arthroscopic procedures.

The arthroscopic is the least invasive and easier to rehab. However if you have an impingement or bone related issue going on, which I am guessing you do have an impingement simply due to it's frequency of occurrence, recovery is slower.

I assure you all rehab is going to be uncomfortable if you do it right but it isn't as bad as a knee, hand or hip in my opinion. The hard thing is showering and keeping it dry. If the surgery is simple, you will have pain for at least 6-8 weeks if not longer but it will get better if you just do the rehab as prescribed and push through the pain early on in the program.

I recommend one of the ice caddy machines or whatever they are called. It's a cooler with a pump you fill with ice and water and it has a pad that fits nicely around the shoulder. That really helped me. The little things are difficult and can be frustrating. You will need help for at least a couple days to get dressed, eat, etc... All in all, my shoulders are vastly better now as I have done a number on my body and I am pain free in them now.

Hope this helps, ?

Pretty sure mine is torn. Was your surgery successful? Long rehab(I'm 60)? Problems?

A few months ago I was having shoulder issues. No strength, had to use my right arm to lift my left arm. Went to my Chiropractor, he worked on it, adjusted it, went back a few times and let him do his thing............it's fine now? At least get a second opinion from someone that doesn't only know to cut you.

Mine is torn from pitching and I have not had it repaired. I think it matters as to how much pain you are in. Mine only hurts when I throw or reach straight up. I think the matter of pain should be the deciding factor. I have thought about getting mine worked on, but I think I do okay on a daily basis, so I will keep putting it off. If it affected my daily life, it would be another story.

Have had three operations on my right one, and along the way the rotator cuff was part of it. Rehab was different for each surgery, but the rotator cuff was not pleasant. Like fdc said, if done right it wont be much fun. Have you been diagnosed or do you just think that is what it is? The only reason I ask is because about a year ago(matter fact I think I posted about it here looking for suggestions) I was having pains that were keeping me from sleeping and it felt just like a torn cuff. Went to doc and told him thats what it was. An MRI, an Arthrography(this one sucks) , and an EMG(this one really sucked) later, and it turns out I had a ruptured disk in my neck. Not saying that's what ya got, but man I could have sworn I tore mine again. Good luck man!

Having trouble sleeping from pain. My own diagnosis from reading of causes and symptoms. Will get more than 1 opinion as suggested, tho.

I was going to try and live with it as well until I aggravated again this eve. I'm still active and it's getting annoying and uncomfortable. I appreciate everyone's feedback.

Is the rotator cuff the general area on the top of the shoulder? I have been having general pain each day after work. Mine involves a degree of physical work. Anyway, it usually subsides the next day after a night off. I can still sleep and work but I feel it will slowly get worse. Then again, I am 48.

I have been going through "frozen shoulder" for a while now. A lot of people think they have rotator issues when they have that.

Chiropractor !!!!!!!!!!!!

He fixed me up. Said I was close to frozen shoulder. I see him every 2 weeks for an adjustment, sure beats getting cut.

My chiro has seen me for 6 visits, and only hurt me more. I'm done with him. It will go away when it does.

I thought mine was torn and finally went for a MRI. It turns out I had loose bone floating in there. They extracted 7 pieces of bone. I have progressed arthrisits (spelling)?

"the bunker"
chronic right shoulder issues....doesn`t stop me from doing stuff.....but at times,it`s difficult sleeping....

i have one of those t.e.n.s. dooohickeys and use it on my shoulder and my quad(riight above my kneecap)....it seems to help with the discomfort....for me it only goes away with rest(and that seems nearly impossible)....then i aggravate it again...
