What do you sell? Do you use a dropshipper?

Very intriqued about this homebased buisness. I have sold alot of things on ebay and I'm looking to do more.

I have had some guys that worked for me in the past tell me about this. It's very competitive and you are up against a lot of people in the same racket (At least here in the big city). I haven't heard of anyone making any big $$ but enough to get by. In the early days things were more lucrative.

It's just a big online flea market to me.

Clem, make sure to look at it this way... why would someone buy on E-bay for a normal product that they could get in their hometown and NOT pay shipping?? gotta be careful with the merchandise selection.

My aunt and uncle do it full time. He goes to these damaged freight places and buys pallets of stuff he thinks he can get rid. He bought a bunch of FM antenae amplifiers (hot item I know) for like $.60 a piece and sold them for $8. They retailed for something like $14. He had hundreds of them and just sold them as people wanted them. He rents an old building for storage and does pretty well. He comes across some crazy stuff sometimes, but you would be surprised at what some people will buy. I would bet he makes more now than when he was working. I would have to agree with IO in that it is like a big flea market.

I've done well selling Ipods cableboxes and other electronics that I buy at wholesale prices and sell below retail. I also sell used ipods and digital cameras that I buy off people who need quick cash. I have been making 3 or4 hundred a week for awhile. No big thing, but I figure if I can get involved with a dropshipper, the more time I have to sell more.

the ones that make money are the ones that get collectibles/antiques cheap at auctions. lots and lots of work. the shipping and collecting money is a big pain in the ass.

in 98 i gave it a (part-time) shot to see if i could make any money if i HAD to. all i did was buy sports collectibles on ebay and resold them for a higher price, with a better ad ;) most have gotten good at the ads now, with all the software available and people getting better using their home pc's.

some of my good hits...

i bought 36 griffey signed baseballs for $10 each and sold them for an average of $50 each.

bought a mike tyson signed glove for $95 and sold it for $450

bought a poker machine for $120 and sold it for $650

i did it for a couple of months and made about 2 dimes a month just playing around. would never want to do it full time but if push came to shove, i know it can be done.

look at some of those power sellers with 10's of thousands of positive feedbacks. they must do okay.

just figure what you want to make and do the math. you want to make $1000 a week you have to sell 10 items where you make $100 each or 20 items at $50 each or 1000 items at $1 each. i think the best way is to pick glassware up at auctions for cheap and sell high.

who knows.

good luck!
