It's a cost thing. PCs and Macs both have a shelf life.
I have a 13" MacBook Air. Air is the only Mac I would buy. I think the other products are not worth the money.
I went with the Air when I was looking to get a laptop with a solid state drive. Airs were actually the most cost effective way to go with this type of drive.
The retina display is simply not worth that much additional money. No way! No how!
Most all of our new employees get a MacBook Air. One of the main reasons is that employees see it as a perk. We still have a mixed environment between Macs & PCs. Both have good options.
