Topic is in relation to thread Jack just closed.

Think about it--doesn't a person's screen name and avatar really tell you what image posters are trying to project in cyber world.

If anyone can find info on psych study on issue would appreciate if they post link--I would like to read it. Would be curious how far off or on track I am on issue.

Many are related to sports-
Many implied to name indirectly-
Many to a method--
--but I find the ones projecting wealth-prowess and success in a catagory of their own.

My avatar is my alma mater's logo and username is the email handle I was given by the school while in college. But I agree that some make you wonder.

Born in Birmingham, true home of the Iron Bowl, everyone is an Alabama or Auburn fan (no pro sports). In school (during homecoming/week of Iron Bowl) we would have "wear your colors day" I would always wear green for UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham).

I went to UAB with many people who would wear Alabama/Auburn gear. I never understood going to one school and cheering for another. I went to UAB. I cheer for UAB and that is my avatar.

Go Blazers!

The dragon is the mascot, I like the motion. The "N" which is actually for Netscape stands for Nashville where I now live.

I like is topic and I have often debated personality/strength in online poker based on avatars.

I have actually been told by some people that I needed to update my Georgia logo becuase there are better, flashier ones out there. I like keeping mine the older version for no particular reason. I guess I identify with this particular G instead of a waving banner flag or some others.

I try to use dawgball with any site I have a login (online retailers, etc.), but it is getting harder and harder to get now.

sorry to bash dawg, but your "classic G" is classic for Green Bay, Grambling and Georgia. Do you think it is at the least "watered down" by it use by several clubs?

madjack was a username i had on aol years before i even thought about having a website. i was in a liquor store one day and saw a bottle that had MadJack on it and decided to use that as my username on aol.

then a couple years after having the site IE sent the avatar to me one day asking if i liked it as an avatar for myself. it's perfect because it shows about exactly what i do. feet on the desk and on the computer so i used it ever since. my avatar prior to this one was....

The theme, characteristics, or interpersonal impact of an avatar may be closely associated with one of these specific types.

narcissistic - themes of power, status, perfection, grandiosity; draws for admiration and praise; feelings of being "special" and "privileged"

schizoid - themes of interpersonal detachment and indifference, perhaps combined with evidence of abstract or intellectual thinking; little evidence of warmth and tenderness; the "loner" themes

paranoid - distrust, isolation, hypervigilance, blaming or finding fault with others; cold, humorless, argumentative characteristics

depressive - gloom, darkness, loss, low self-esteeem

manic - energtic, grandiose, impulsive

masochistic - self-destructive, themes revolving around the "bad self" or "woe is me"

obsessive/compulsive - seriouis, formal; themes of control and perfection; shows evidence of a concern about details and rules

psychopathic - antisocial, violates rules; little evidence of shame or guilt; takes advantage of others; possible superficial friendliness or charm

histrionic - attention-seeking and seductive in flavor, dramatic, emotional, vain; themes involving dependency

schizotypal - themes of being aloof, indifferent; evidence of magical thinking or superstitious beliefs; peculiar characteristics

Like masks of any kind, avatars hide and reveal at the same time. Behind it, people can conceal some personal things about themselves, but the av also selectively amplifies other aspects of their personalities. It may reveal something about the member that otherwise is not immediately obvious - maybe not even obvious if you met that person in real life. Maybe not even obvious to the owners themselves. What users express in their props is not always a conscious choice. Sometimes it's unconscious. People may simply say that they are wearing a particular av because "I like it." When asked, they're not sure what it says about them. But other people may know.

As for my avatar, it has a truly deep, psychological reference. If you intensely focus on it's center with your eyes for 22 minutes at 2:00 GMT on even number days, it will shed some light into it's true meaning.

Hope this helps. :scared

Blazer -- i expected better from you.

The institution?s name was changed to Grambling College in 1946.

On Aug. 11, 1919, a score or more husky young athletes, called together by Curly Lambeau and George Calhoun, gathered in the dingy editorial room of the old Green Bay Press-Gazette building on Cherry Street and organized a football team.

When the University of Georgia was incorporated by an act of the General Assembly on January 27, 1785, Georgia became the first state to charter a state-supported university.

-----------------------------------------
Now being a fair individual, I went to the Packers site and found this. :(

"I see that the University of Georgia uses a similar 'G' logo. Who used the logo first?
The Packers 'G' logo was invented by Dad Braisher specifically for the Packers in 1961. Georgia began using a similar looking logo in 1964. According to Georgia's official website, head coach Vince Dooley "had been impressed with the look of the helmet worn by the Green Bay Packers, which featured the oval 'G' but in a different color scheme. Dooley settled on the black oval 'G' surrounded by a white oval background resting on each side of the bright red helmet. A white stripe was placed over the top." In 1996, Georgia then added a smaller black stripe inside the white stripe. "
